Wiper motor '81 RX-7 -- broken bushing (and weathered connectors)
 

Have two problems contributing to/causing loss of wiper function:

1) broken pressed-in bushing to main armature driven off motor (pic)

2) badly weathered connectors to the wiper motor (would be nice to renew)

Any knowledge where/how can source a bushing and have it pressed in?
Or find a replacement assembly?

Probably best to replace the full rod (already with pressed in bushing).
Presently trying now to locate one.

There is a member here.....Kutukutu1 that makes the bushings for the wiper assembly and also for the headlights motors by 3d printing them...... I ordered the thru his page and they work awesome......

I've ordered both sets of bushings and also the door lock surround......awesome quality.

But at referral of Atkins Rotary, just talked with Kurt Robertson Mazda outside of Portland. He's got a cleaned up lubed, etc full wiper assembly (motor, rod, arms, and plug that's not falling apart like mine) that I'll be going for.

3-D printing I think offers lots of possibilities for these models. Thanks for pointing that out.

With a full assembly, I wouldn't face the need to press in a bushing. And then I'd still confront the plug (pic)

If someone might need a hand-me-down assembly with weathered plugs and bushing to revitalize (motor continuity is OK), I'm open to parting with my oem one.

The connector on mine is like that. Right now it's been taped up and holding fine for the last 10 years, but one of these days I'll get the connectors from here and do them up properly.

Tempting, that 3-D bushing option. There's probably lots of items 3-D printing can help us with keeping these babies together.

But thru Atkins, I found a full assembly from a Kurt Robertson in Oregon and will be going that way. Should be an easy plug-in.

So should someone may care for a hand-me-down front wiper assembly, I'll shortly have one to ship off. With the wiper motor, rod with bad bushing and weathered connectors.

I’d like to know which of those wires is the stop function. Mine blow up under heavy acceleration or high speed. Zip tied for a while now as I don’t go out in the rain.

The search feature on the forum is your friend. Stu All has posted several times about the connector to the wiper assy. Brittle / crumbling wiper connectors are a common problem on these cars. See this thread, 2nd post. Replacement connectors are available at easter beaver.com. Just de-pin the existing one and re-pin to the new housing.

Appreciate the tip/referral on connectors. Alas, the motor rod and its bushing would still need attention.

I've got an full assembly on the way from Oregon. Maybe I'll refurb the old one (what else do I have to do?) and make it available to the community.

I just used some tools I bought off amazon ( not pro line but serviceable for the hobbiest )
