Where did you mount your front license plate?

I think I saw a thread like this once a long time ago but thought I'd start one since I couldn't find it. Just curious as to where people mounted their front license plates. I'd really prefer to NOT use that stock ugly bracket, so any other alternatives would be great. Even if you just bolted it into the bumper.. that seems like it might just be the solution

3rd genner's use a special hinge, so as they get to freeway speed it will swing back so they can get more air into their engine bay. I would think you have to go pretty fast for it to have swung back far enough though.

Mounted mine on the stock DSM mount that was for the DSM bumper I have on my car. I mounted the plate mount the most ghetto way I could - with a chunk of wood and some screws. I dont have pics but it works lol.

Edit: On the wifey's FC I used aluminum rivets with an aluminum backer plate for strength.

mine's on the stock location, but i put a plastic clear cover on it. it looks a lot better than without it.

That was, until i destroyed the plastic cover xD

On a hook over my workbench, most of the time.

For smog checks, on the stock bracket, for meets and such, it goes on top of the dash.

I've had it in my dash visible but cops are being a bitch about it lately.

Pretty sure the vehicle code only specifies "on the front of the vehicle," but any time you start quoting MVC to a cop, you're just digging a hole for yourself.

do yours like mine CBZ. bolt it down and bend it. sure its ghetto but i like the way it looks

I have slimline personal plates so mine aren't too high, so the plate doesn't affect the air going into my radiator/oil cooler/ intercooler.

I used "nut-serts" (spelling?) which are basically exactly like a large pop rivet, except they have a 10mm thread in the center of the rivet.

They are great for attaching stuff in engine bays etc.

I just put 2 directly into the front of the bumper and then got a couple of old school hotrod pointy style chromed nuts to hold the licence plate on.

Cam...

That looks good Cam! Kinda wish out plates were that shape... As for my cars I just use the stock bracket, not a huge fan of the way it looks, but I'd rather not risk it, around here its just another excuse to get stopped...

DivinDriver 03-25-09 09:57 AM

Yeah, import car designers must shudder with horror when asked to make provisions for the US (12"x6", or 30cmx15cm for you foreign folk) plates front and back.

I have yet to see ANY sportscar design that elegantly integrates a 1/2-square-foot flat vertical plate into an aerodynamic front-end design. It's like bolting a barn door onto an airplane.

pics!

Yours looks good there Cam because it's a longer license plate, ours are probably half the size and don't look half as good in the same spot!

:)

mazdaverx713b 03-25-09 12:06 PM

i would never drill into my front bumper...just use the oem license plate mount. it mounts to the aluminum support via two 10mm bolts.

Kerebrus 03-25-09 12:10 PM

I can't, looks too ugly :(

mazdaverx713b 03-25-09 12:39 PM

what looks to ugly, the front plate mount?

Kerebrus 03-25-09 12:42 PM

Yes

lx_machado 03-25-09 02:58 PM

That sucks Kerebrus, neither OK nor TX require front plates, so I don't got one.

I can't believe the bacon is giving you trouble about it being on the dash.

umm wtf? you need to check those laws again man....in texas you DO NEED a front license plate mounted on your car....i have a couple friends in law enforcement here in texas and they say its a must and they even hate doing it lol

mazdaverx713b 03-26-09 11:36 AM

i've never installed a front plate and remove the bracket (if so equipped) on every 7 i buy. i cant stand the look of a front plate on the 7.
