What's it worth?
After 15 years im finally selling my SA but I have no idea what it is worth. I've seen them listed online anywhere from sub $1k to over $15k for an '80 model. My '80 is an anniversary edition which I assume would add value but again, I don't know. I'm the second owner and the car has 104k miles. All original, never wrecked, 5 speed. Paint is pretty tired and there are rust spots on the hood. The interior looks good for its age, with the exception of the cracked dash. It runs and drives well. I'm trying to figure out the best place to list it and where to start at as far as an asking price.
Pictures would help a lot for us to give you the best guess. Based on your description, I would estimate
maybe $2500. 8k or more is for pristine #1 or #2 condition SA. Being an anniversary edition is
definitely a plus but the description you have provided so far lowers the value quite a bit.
I'm sure others will chime in but pictures will be the deciding factor for us to help you value it.

Thanks for the response, I will definitely post some pics of the car. Before I parked it the AC compressor blew so I pulled it out of the car intending to replace it. Do you think repairing the AC before selling would be worth the $300 investment?
I would say $1,500. The AC isn't worth paying to fix because it will be an afterthought to the buyer more concerned about just getting it running properly and replacing the much more important things. To some people it matters, but in my opinion the anniversary thing doesn't add value either. We don't even know if it runs?

Tim Nailed it.
The problem is, the cost to restore back to original pushes the investment way past the final value. Thats even if you can fine some of the parts. I'm sure trying to replicate that special fabric on the seats would be a substaintial undertacking in itself. Finding nice Anniversary X, B pillar badges (if needed) is another magic trick. Anyways, not trying to discourage, you do have a special model SA, which are becomming more rare. The good news is, someone will probablly lust after it.

that being said, you do want to clean the car inside and out. you probably should bleed the brakes too, its just one less thing on the list, and its a 30 minute job.

The seats have actually been well preserved. I put covers on them years ago to prevent the fading and tearing. The anniversary X badges used to be pristine but have completely faded over the years, and i bet those would be all but impossible to find. I do have the original vinyl sun roof cover that came from the factory, which i'm hoping is a bonus. The vinyl headliner has fared very well over the years, it's still shiny and black without any tears. The door cards are in good shape with the exception of the plastic bit behind the door handle, those literally disintegrated in the sun. There is a chromed plastic piece that goes at the top of the interior door pull, those broke years ago and i've never been able to find replacements. I've still got the original AC compressor, i suppose it might be worth a shot to rebuild it and install it back in the car.
At Barret Jackson- $250,000 or more!
I would guess $1.5-3K... I have a 1980 I picked up for $1400 in really good shape but as with a car this old, had to replace all rubber and consumables, and the engine had no compression on the rear rotor. So, as of now, I am around $7-8k... By the time I do paint, I will be into the teens... I will not get that much for this car anytime soon but to me it's more about keeping an old classic running than it is about the cost...

Seeing your avatar pic brings back memories. That's what mine used to look like! I wish it was worth getting it resprayed before i sold it. Would be nice to see it that shiny and red again!
That's part of the problem with these cars... They'll never be worth what we have into them.
Oh, and BTW, what I have spent on mine has been with me doing all the labor. I did take all the suspension apart and had it powder coated, that was about $1000...
Yes, keeping these cars maintained and presented well, are matters of the heart rather than the head. If your interior is well perserved, than you are ahead of the game. With a little effort, I bet the badges could be restored. The door cups can disintegrate over time, but are still available. Those chrome trim covers at the top of the door pulls are 1980 specific only and are hard to find, but not entirely impossibile. I'm not sure you would re coup the cost of making the A/C functional again.
I looked for the chrome caps for the door pulls years ago with no luck. I may look at buying some inner door handle covers but I've already put too much money into the car; I'm almost $600 in at this point. I went to go bleed the brakes today so I could take it to get inspected and one of the tires was flat; dry rot. I ended up putting two new ones on the car and ordered a set of front disks since the current ones are too rusted to mess with.
