What would you do?

As some of you guys may know my 79SA died on me a little ways back.I lost compression on my rear housing. I pulled the motor apart and fould i had stuck seals and major flacking on bottom half of the housing. The oil pump chain was so slack you could almost touch the chain together. I found another good housing i had from another parts car i had, so i would just need a full rebuild kit which i found on Atkins Rotary for 800.00 and some change. While apart i was thinking of a port job.I would like to go with a full bridge but i have read that doing this would take the life out of my engine.I like the brap that i would gain plus the xtra hp.Going with a street port would give a little more ponies but not much.Turbo would be sweet but i have no clue and it would be real costly. If i sell my 12a parts, Racing Beat carb and intake and header and good housings and irons, i could use that money and buy a 13b. Then i would have to get a new intake and carb, header. This is something that does not have to be done overnight, but i was wondering about the pros and cons. Money is some what of a issue but i have plenty of time for this build. Can you guys give me some thoughts of what you would do. I would like to get about 250 or so, close to 300 hp if possible.

Get the 13B and carb it, sell the remaining stuff you can, and maybe do Streetport. I don't think turbo is good on a SA/FB engine because of having to rebuild them 30-35K from what I hear. A carb'd ported 13B in your SA would haul ass with headers and all. Just my 2 cents...

You can tell from my signature that I agree with bmeyer!!!!

lightly ported and carbed and exhaust 13b is powerful in a first gen

What i like is the simplicity, you don't have to be an expert on
FI or turbo's to keep it running!!!!

If this is still around, I would think of buying it and doing the swap:

Yes the 13b idea is sounding really nice. The only problem i may have is securing that 13b. I have done searches and found a bunch of 13bs on online car parts.com but they have over 100,000 miles and would have to be rebuilt. The prices range from 450.00 to almost a thousand. That means another 800.00 or so to rebuild not including carb, intake and header. How much quicker would a 13b be in a Sa than a FB? The search is on!

just put a 350 in there and be done with it.

-se rotating assembly between 12a irons, add in a modded nikki (atop an rx4 intake), long tube header, and decent serving of large streetport. This my friend, is a recipe for awesome.

ah I have an engine from an s3 and am going to boost it, should be fun the sa 12a is in a climate controlled spot so if I ever want to go back to all orignal ... but thats just my two cents ... or say screw it and go for the 13b ... it's a good number lol ;)

this is complete BS. if the engine is built right, and by this i mean built to handle boost, they will last way beyond 30k. if they didn't last no more than that, they were probably over boosted. how long an engine last is completely dependent on how much care was taken during and after the built and proper breakin, regardless weather it's a turbo, blower, or nos.

Aside from REW housings instead of the SE housings, this is my setup exactly. So far it's kicking some ass and I haven't even tuned it or taken it over 6K. Your not going to get over 200 in a naturally aspirated 12A or 13B without some extensive trial and error and fuel injection. However you can get very close to 200hp. Hyper4mance2k has proven that.
