Whacha'll think?

So I've been planning on buying the pieces for a complete 13b rebuild some time in the future (September-ish) to be installed in either my current FB or a new shell (TBD) and I ran into this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ksid=p3907.m29
It seems like a decent price to me, but I'm head-scratching on what I'd be looking at paying to get it to stock condition and running as a complete engine.

Atkins sells rebuild kits for ~$950, then I guess I'd need an intake, dizzy, etc... Any guessers on what the total cost might turn into?

good luck with not getting screwed.

houseings look like shit!

Pass.

Triple the cost of the 950 from atkins and you MIGHT have an engine core. Those housings as said look like shit, they run between 3 and 450 a peice. If they are in that poor of shape, then housings or rotors might not be in good shape either.

well, at least it has an S5 rotating assembly.. Might be an SE front cover (didn't look closely). He might have a SE oil pan, but didn't see a pan in the pics. The rotor housing are not worth shipping or buying. Not sure on the irons as there are not any good pics.

Anyway, just shipping will make it not worth it IMO. If you could pick up, and it had the SE oil pan/front cover, it might be worth $200 if the rotating asembly and such were in good shape. Pass on this one...

Gotcha.

djessence, were you saying 3k-ish because of the condition of the housing, or because that is what it would cost even if the stuff was in good condition?

save your money and just get this.....

Because of housings etc.

Housings are 300 a peice. IF you are lucky, unless you are part of mazdaspeed the cheapest new ones are is 400+ shipping. So 800 in new housings, plus the rebuild kit you are already at 2000. Thats assuming all the other parts are good, which is not always the case.

Alot of people can find engines for 1500 ish in decent shape but there is always a risk in buying a used engine. As said the fact that is has S5 rotating assembly is a good thing, but i dunno. I bought a used engine (granted it wasnt dissassembled) to get a housing. It has less miles than mine by half and the only good parts were the rotors and an iron. So i ended up being 200 out of pocket and still had to buy some housings which is why i bought it.

Could be decent if the rotating assembly is in good condition. IF

EDIT: 83GSP brought up a good point. That was the price i was refering to. Just be aware the wiring harness is on the opposite side of north american engines.

I'll sell you an S4 motor in just as good shape WITH all the injection crap, manifolds and ECU for less than half of that. And I'm 100% serious. Give me $250 plus shipping and you'd make me the happiest man around...
