Unsold cars

While not really a RX7 thread, I thought people might like to read this article about what happens to cars that are made but never sold.
The short story is that they pile up all over the place, day after day, week after week until you have a situation like this:

UNSOLD CARS

Anyway, I thought it was interesting and never really gave it much thought until now.

Now all we need to do is find out where Mazda keeps all thier unsold cars and who knows what we might find languishing in some deserted location. Hmmmmm....

I find this extremely sad. And I don't even like new cars.

Remember the auto bail outs? Should just have let GM et al fail, right? Remember the car destruction program where they dump in nasty chemicals to ruin perfectly good running engines? That's progress, I guess.

Well, it's a ditch they've dug for themselves. Can they climb out?

It is a bit of selective journalism. Yes, there are lots of unsold cars but the problem is not at the magnitude that the author would make you believe. From years working in the automobile industry I can tell you that a lot of those pictures are pre-launch staging areas. Before a vehicle's launch date in order to be able do quickly deliver them to dealerships on the day of launch.

I can tell you that Nissan does use its test track and those cars were only temporarily stored there in order to stage them from the ships that brought them from Japan or elsewhere. The author even shows that cars have been moved--not to destroy them but to send them to dealerships.

Take random internet sites with a grain of salt.

^^ agreed. theres a port near here that we have to drive past to get to the race track, and i've never seen it more empty than it was last year. in fact you can see it here https://goo.gl/maps/fRVhq less than half full....

although my friend was able to find a leftover toyota last year, and not just the one, but a bunch, which is odd. i don't expect toyota to have more than 90 days of inventory, and they have like a year and a half...

edit: here is port hueneme where Mazda brings some cars though, https://goo.gl/maps/essDN looks like they have tons of room...

oh and Longo toyota, the biggest dealership on the planet has TONS of extra parking https://goo.gl/maps/rZF40

Yeah id like to know where all the gslse's are at, I cant find a parts car anywhere for what I need to get my car on the road lol

CAMI, the GM plant in Ingersoll (1.5 hours west of Toronto) seems to be stockpiling new Equinox's. I've seen them parked up on at least three different properties within the area. I've either never noticed before (likely) or something is going on (less likely).

Or GM is getting ready for their next recall.
