TII Brake Upgrade ???
 

What is the smallest wheel/rim size we can run on our FB when switching to the TII brake setup????

I just ordered Re-Speed.com/Billy's complete brake upgrade with lines and axles so I will need to order 5 lug wheels. I would like to keep it in the 15" or 16" family BUT will they clear the front 4 piston calipers????

I'm farily sure 15" will clear everything.

I'd head over to the 2nd Gen section and find out what size wheels fit on a TII. That should give you a farily accurate read of what will fit over a TII brake setup.

One caution though : 2nd Gen rims aren't a direct bolt-on after the installation of that kit. The offset needed is very different than the offset that exists on the 2nd Gen. Just know that when you do the install your car will be off the road for a while since you'll have to install the big brake kit, then find out how big of a spacer you will need in order to make your rims line up properly.

15" wheels will fit.

The backspace needs to be 4.5" or so on the wheels. This depends on stock springs or coil over size springs. You can get slightly more with coil over size springs.

Right now I am running Eibach springs, I will hopefully get your coilovers in the future, just had to stop filling up the cart since my total was climbing pretty fast as I was clicking everything I wanted...:lol:

The 2nd gen might fit as I have a GSL-SE and their offset was pretty high...
As for the car being down... your 100% right:lol:

I have to get all new bearings and seals and have them pressed onto the new axles/hubs. Then I have to install everything, put new brake rotors, bleed the system etc etc.....:wallbash:

I have 15" FC convertable rims on my big brake setup and it required a 25mm spacer up front to keep it from rubbing the spring. You might be able to get away with a 20mm spacer but it would be close. I got the SE length axles for the rear and the wheels are in just the right spot so you're set there.

What is the offset on those Vert rims????

All FC rims are +40 iirc

so 40mm minus the 25mm spacer means any wheel with 15mm or greater should fit.

Is your FB an SE or GSL ?

it's a 83 S, but I got SE length axles for the back, and the front spindles are the same whether is SE or not, once you remove the SE's hub from the front its the same part as the non SE's (assuming the same year range).
So yes 15mm offset should be just about right. Like I said a 20mm spacer might have been enough, but it would be very close thats why i went with 25mm...

No problem, the one other thing I'd like to mention is that stock FC lug studs are too short to use with the axles you bought. They only grab about half the threads in the lug nut. I haven't replaced mine with longer ones yet, but will definatly need to before I put too many miles on my setup. i'm still working out all the bugs with my T2 swap so I have some time....

Be sure to base that offset on the same width wheels. Meaning a 15MM offset will only work with the same width as the FC vert wheels. Wider wheels will need less offset.

Ok, I searched and this one is as close as I can come to my question. I pray to the forum search gods that this the only post.

I have a second Gen

I'm Buying a 1st gen
and i want to save as much investment as possible. For example, The Brake conversion I did on my 86 FC. This thread implies that The four pots can fit a first gen? I'd like to verify that.

I got mine off a 91 (or so) convertable. Didnt really stop to inspect the vin just wanted the calipers.

I installed them on my 1986 they work great and I'd like to keep em.

You must use the re-speed kit and 15" or larger wheels, but yes the 4 piston calipers and t2 sized rotors will fit.
