Thoughts on possible purchase
 

Hey, I'm new the this forum and have always wanted an rx7. I dont know too much about what they go for price wise, or if there are certain years I should stay away from. Im thinking of driving down and looking at a 79 fb that has a lot of work done to it. https://annapolis.craigslist.org/cto...285719484.html
the only thing though, is I live in New Jersey, so this is like a 4 hour drive each way, and I dont want to drive all that way if the car wont be worth it. Any and all help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I didn't even see it there lol. Thank you though! I actually happened to find one about an hour closer in the other direction that caught my eye, so I'll probably look at it first.

The owner of that 79 completely ruined the car with that add on crap. Stay away from that car IMO. The most valuable SA's are the ones that are completely stock and original and IMO, a 79 Limited should be left stock and original.

To me, a potential buyer (especially one that may be new to a specific model) needs to do their homework first. They should learn and decide what kind of car is most desired or fits their individual needs and mechanical capabilities. Should it be completely stock or can it be modified? If so, what kinds of Mods would acceptable or not. From here you can narrow the search and probably have gained enough knowledge along the way to spot a good deal and know the difference btw a nice car and one that you should avoid.

Remember, it's an old car. It's not a question of "if" it will break or not, its more of a "when" and "what" it will need question. Even if it doesn't break, it will require maintenance and if you don't plan on doing it yourself, you should be prepared to either park it or spend vast amounts paying someone else to keep it running down the road. When you purchase an older vehicle, you are also inheriting its previous maintenance history (good or bad).

That being said, I do agree that these cars retain their most value when kept in stock form, especially the limited run, special models. It doesn't mean that it cannot be made stock again but to be honest if it's a stock example that you want, currently it would be much easier and less expensive to just find and buy a nice stock 79 Limited vs. spend the money, time and headache to bring one back.

The price is fair for what it is, although personally I wouldn't have done
some of the things I'm seeing in the ad. I would check for rust issues under
all the body kit stuff and see what he means by a stripped interior. The
only interior pics don't look stripped.

If you buy this as a possible SA LS restoration, skip it and pay a little more
for a stock example. It will take a lot to bring this back to stock if thats what you are after.
