I've searched extensively for the past month. I have yet to find any results for this particular issue. I've seen results for cars that idle high, or idle with the choke on. Just no results for my issue. Motor has good compression, time seems decent, I can only keep it running while continuously pumping the gas pedal after its started or continuously spraying starter fluid.

All right guys, I recently picked up an Ocean Blue 85 GSL. It sat for 16 years before I got it. I had the gas tank hot washed, replaced the fuel pump, cleared all fuel lines, put new plugs and rebuilt the carb. The issue I'm having is that I can't get the carb to flow. I can pump the gas pedal and see the gas flow from the accelerator pump. When I crank it after hitting the gas a few times it will kick over then die. It's not flooding. Just doesn't seem to be flowing fuel through the idle circuit or the jets. Need some carb Guru on this one. Car is bone stock. Also my front sight glass shows about 3/4 full and the rear shows half full.

Did the carb have gum and varnish in it?

Maybe you've got a vacuum leak so bad there isn't enough vacuum to pull any fuel out of the idle circuit.

You say your fuel levels aren't both in the middle of the windows. You might have swapped out the good working OEM needles and seats for the bad aftermarket ones in the kit. I say that because stock float levels don't change unless someone drops the carb or changes the needles and seats.

There was a lot of varnish in the entire fuel system. I cleaned the carb really good. The accelerator pump check ball was stuck but I was able to get it out, clean the port and put the new check ball in there. Is there any way to check the flow of the idle circuit at all?

The idle circuit is a bear. Follow it down into the iron base plate. It makes a sharp turn in that base plate and takes much effort to get it clear. Once it does life gets much better :D

This helps greatly. I'll check it later on today. Hopefully I find a clog or something there and get this machine back on the road after 16 years. Thanks for the input.
