5 speed, GSL-SE, new paint. Seems like a good car to go after in the spring, looks perfect for a T2 swap. he wants 3900$ for it

What about mileage? For nearly 4K, it better be in mint condition and extremely low mileage.

Rotaryphil 11-19-07 04:57 PM

223k. Motor isn't a big deal anyways with those k's, i'll be doing a S5 T2 swap. 3900$ isn't a good price for a good shape GSL-SE ?

85 FB 11-19-07 05:02 PM

223K miles? No, that is WAY too many miles for that much money. $2000 most. There have been a few members who have bought 7's are good as that one for a lot less money.

Check out nada.com (Kelly Blue Book only goes down to 1987) to see what it should be worth. But, mileage is the big killer of price from what I've dealt with.

For that kind of money, it better not have any rust anywhere, a clean-ass engine bay, etc. etc.

See if this link works for you:

For that high of mileage, 1500. You will have many wear parts to replace, many of which should be upgraded anyway for the TII swap, i.e., brakes, suspension, tranny, etc..

If the body, interior, engine bay are in mint condition, and absolutely no signs of rust, maybe 2k, but no more. Friend of mine bought a one owner SE with 244k several years ago for 700. He spent that much again just to get it streetable, but it ran great.

Yea i see what your saying. I've been looking around at some others and I'm surprised how cheap you can buy FB's in mint shape for. I would have thought they'd be worth more. Mind you there are some around i've seen for over 7000$ in mint shape. Here's another one i was looking at and he wants 3000. He says it a "Rare R7B model" I've never heard of a R7B ????

These are in Canada, would there be a difference in worth?

85 FB 11-19-07 05:09 PM

I spent $1500 on my '85 -SE and it came with 160k miles on it. Then I had to spend about $800 just to get it up to snuff: replace oil cooler lines, belts, ignition tune up, oil change, coolant flush, tranny and diff fluid, and a bunch of other stuff.

Nope. Check the underbelly for any rust damage from salt and the like if it was driven during the winter. Even then, talk the guy down to $2k.

Rotaryphil 11-19-07 05:15 PM

awsome, In the spring there will be alot more for sale. This is good news i thought i'd be spending more money to get the SE. I was always under the impression the SE was worth WAY more than the others present day.

Jeezus 11-19-07 05:22 PM

I spent 800 on a flawless body and interior, blown engine. There are beauties out there :)

85 FB 11-19-07 05:29 PM

You just gotta know where to look. Altho in my area, I only found one for sale, and that's the one I'm driving. :)

mikewoodkozar 11-19-07 05:37 PM

I bought my 84 GSL for $4k, but it had less than 40K on the clock

borinquen7 11-19-07 05:38 PM

I am gonna have to agree with everyone, I also bought a great shape se for 2000 and had to buy quite a few things to get rite......

Rotaryphil 11-19-07 06:04 PM

Hopefully there will be lots for sale in March. When do the sports car ad's pick up? I have to also sell my 944 a little later on for funds to get the S5 front clip lol

85 FB 11-19-07 06:21 PM

Just keep searching every week or so. People don't abide by a set rule of when to put up sports cars for sale. Altho, I did purchase mine in March.

Fishguy 11-19-07 08:27 PM

223,000 kms = 135,000 miles

Used cars always go for way more in Canada. I paid $4500 for my mint 84 GS with 67,000 Kms (40,000 miles) in British Columbia. Everyone around here says I got a good deal. It would probably go for a grand less south of the border.

7SpringsMisfit 11-20-07 07:36 PM

4300 for my 80 LS with 38k on the clock.

tallbozo 11-20-07 08:09 PM

$500...:)

I say look it over very very thoroughly, then use your best judgment. Take into consideration how hard and rare they are around you as well. Sometimes that makes tons of difference.

Although some have said on here the it doesn't make a difference being in Canada, only Canadians know for sure. Ask fellow Canadians what they see as trends.

bad 83 11-21-07 08:13 AM

But $3900 in Canadian, is like $1500 in US, right? Just kidding. I have a buddy who lives in Ontario. There are some cars and bikes that are hard to find, so you pay more for them.

Tobias 11-24-07 12:50 AM

Sorry bad 83, Right now its the other way around!!

:P

DwArF 11-24-07 05:32 PM

I paid 300 dollars for my 85 gsl with a blown motor :)
