So depressing..

Last night my dad and I finally finished the new suspension on my Fb, racing beat springs and tokico hps, brand new ready to go. I test drive the car and everything is great, then head for town to show my friend. 15 minutes down the road I am on the main drag through town at about 35 mph when a group of at least 5 or 6 deer come barreling out of the hedges on the left side of the road and begin crossing the street right in front of me. I didn't even see them until the last second and the road is wet. I slam on the brakes and watch as I avoid hitting any head on, but the biggest deer I've ever seen drops his head and slams straight into the left front fender, then slides across the side of the car and runs away. My front fender is smashed in three places, the driver side door is crimped and won't open, and I can hardly look at the car. I have liability insurance, so naturally it doesn't cover this type of thing. So much for saving to buy a daily driver and put antique plates on the RX-7. Incidentally, if anyone hasn't noticed, our paper-thin fenders will ding and dent if you look at them wrong...

Sorry to hear that man. But at least you're just looking at replacing a fender and door, rather than structural damage. Good luck with the repairs. And coming from Michigan, I can tell you that deer really suck....

Time to take up hunting.

Sorry to hear your -7 got bent. Gotta be real aggravating.

I almost hit a deer last summer on I-96 outside of Lansing going to the Wayland, MI Furrin group auto-x (morning of May 10th, about 6:30am). I saw a deer start crossing the eastbound lanes (I was going westbound, doing ~75 in the fast lane passing a Ford Freestyle). I put my foot down and slowly accelerated to ~83 when the deer was right at my driver's quarter panel. My room mate finally saw it and started yelling "oh fuck! oh fuck! oh fuck!". It jumped and I saw it's belly as it flew over the roof of my car and slammed head first into the driver's door of the freestyle.

Deer are a bitch, but at least it just did your door and fender, and didn't end up through your windshield. Good luck with the repairs.

Why something that big was given roughly the brains of a squirrell, I will never understand.

Sorry to hear that. speaking of squirrel, one time I was driving my FD and hit/killed a squirrel. Everything was ok, but it scared the hell out of me.

Dude, I can't imagine how terrible you must have felt getting out and looking at your FB. I feel for you.

I hit a buck doing over 50 and totalled a BMW 325i. I'm alive today thankfully because it didn't come over the hood and into the windshield.

Deers are a significant danger.

Hope you can rise again.

If I ever see a seer in front of me, I'll just hit the gas. If you break it just ramps up the hood and takes your head off. I'd rather replace a bumper that a windshield I suppose.

As far as collector plates go, I dont know about your state but here in MN we can't put them on a daily driver. They can actually write you pretty hefty tickets if they catch you driving it.

I hate deer. Sorry to hear about that, but hopefully you can fix it. I hit one a couple of years ago in my 83 GSL. I had to replace the left front fender, left headlight assembly, front valance, and hood. Sucks, but at least you didn't get hurt.

Well Saturday morning I'm headed to Pittsburgh to order a new fender, just need to get a hold of the body guy now..hopefully the whole thing doesn't cost too much. I'm driving a Jeep at the moment until the fb is fixed, nothing like really windy roads around here to make you miss your RX-7.

DivinDriver 04-16-09 02:44 PM

Watch out for moose.

FunK73 04-16-09 03:48 PM

For the front fender it'll probably run about $200-$250. The door I have no idea

I have that exact same handcannon. But yeah, deer suck, I have hit one in a car and narrowly avoided two on my bike.

I know a guy, Ryan, that can help you with them big revolvers. He's good with 'em.

While I was down at DGRR this year I was riding shotgun with Kentetsu and a rabbit ran across the road, got to the other side, then turned around to run back for some reason. Thump Thump, as we squashed him.

Squirrels and rabbits are about as stupid as deer. Last year I was picking my brother up from his school and a squirrel ran in front of me and darted back and forth three times before I was on top of him, then he jumped straight up in the air, and I hit him with my bumper while he was in midair.

I couldnt avoid him because there was uncoming traffic, but when I did hit him I knocked him through the air into the front fender of a Focus, I laughed my ass off, it was just too comical to beleive. I felt like I was playing squirrel pinball.

Last night I saw a bunch of deer in a field when one of the 'attempted' to cross the road about a 100 yards in front of me. They all spooked and took off into the woods.

A half hour later I drove throught the EXACT same spot and they were still waiting to cross, except this time I saw them and was doing 20 mph, but they decided to run in front of me anyway... I swear to god, they had a HALF HOUR TO CROSS, I was outside the whole time and not a single car drove down this road. They waited for a car to come, and then RAN IN FRONT OF IT....

I dont get it....
