Senseless Loss ..... SA22C-502332
Well choopacabra and I snuke over to a local salvage on a vague tip of an SA.

well there's a spare set of rotor housings for ya
i remember seeing it but was looking for FCs to chop up for parts.. not a one to be found. |

I found an 85 GS FB with somewhat of the same issue. Had a perfect looking 12a with nothing taken off of it yet, almost nothing gone in the interior. Had a terrible body, looked like it had been dropped from a few feet without rims on it so the bottom rockers and quarters were toast. But other than that it was a perfect parts car. I was an inexperienced rotary owner, still am in my opinion, but I only took a few small parts off of it. IT STILL HAD THE EVER-CHERISHED CLEAR DOME LIGHT COVER ON THE REAR VIEW MIRROR, I STILL KICK MYSELF ONCE A DAY FOR NOT GRABBING THAT! I wish I would have had the cash on hand to buy it whole at that point. I only really needed the master clutch cylander to get my car driving. I will not be making the same mistake twice.

If you go, I'm looking for the D-ring that is on the long cargo strap that is attached inbetween the rear wheel wells. Also look at the spare, I'd like to get another OEM Bridgestone, RD-106 185/75R-13. Does not have to be new, just presentable in appearance w/decent tread and not excessively worn on the shoulders.

its a loss if its crushed.. this can still be restored..

you know you could just buy it from the junk yard thats what we did found a number 159 car in a local junk yard had 48k miles on it and last time it was registered was back in 88

unfortunately once these cars are in the yard they are already titled for scrap and cannot be sold. i asked about a RX2 wagon many moons ago, that is how i know.

depends on where you live in order to get it. I know in KY once it was in a yard it was forever lost but in TN you could buy it out. it was sad because one of the yeards in KY had a shell of a S12 and I wanted to fix it up but it was 1 mile from TN so nope/

Yep here in tn you can buy junk cars all day long. I think you have to get it inspected before you register it legally though.

I still will; I've already committed to you & will follow through. The car we're discussing is pretty clearly a late 1979 - - it's got a points ignition system setup, & so this carb will not be an exact match for me. I need your 80 carb for the base emissions build. I may have one of those stashed in a parts jar; I'll check the next time I'm in the garage.

So now with that being said this car was the 2332 off the assembly line, would have been a great rust free candidate for resto or polish and drive |

All this makes me wonder just how many First Gens were crushed/destroyed with the "Cash For Clunkers" program a couple of years back....I know of two locally that were drug in (literally) as trades during the program, and were destined for scrap....

Maybe they were traded in for rx8s. Look on the positive side. Plus someones new washer and dryer are made from rx7 bits.

Not exactly, sir; my 1980 is SA22C-597799, with an early Jan '80 build date. Jan 80 production started with VIN 597273 per the parts fiche preface; model year 1980 production continued into September '80, and somewhere past VIN 629954. The VIN source I use is the "monthly starting numbers" list in the front part of the parts microfiche - - you know, the part nobody reads 'cause they're in a hurry to get to the pictures... just like with Penthouse, lol.
Pretty sure Sgt Fox still as 'em up. |

In NC, once the car hits a salvage yard the VIN number is sent into the DMV as "Vehicle Destroyed." Once that happens they cannot sell you a complete shell. You can buy the front half and the back half, weld it back together, but the vehicle cannot be registered for "on highway use." Sad but true..........
