scrapping limited edition rims...

so, i gave a gentleman 150 down on a 82 gsl and he sold it before i could afford to rent myself a trailer. he was selling 2 cars for 700 and the gsl had the LE 83 BBS rims. so i got screwed out of 150 plus a nice car with really really nice rims. so the guy who bought it (after i paid for half of that car already) obviously didn't wanna get rid of those rims and said he only bought the car for the rims. now, thing is he only has 3 limited edition rims. i have the 4th. he said he wanted to work a deal with me, but offered me 30 bucks for the one rim.. i don't exactly see how losing 150 bucks and that set of rims and giving away a LE rim for 30 bucks is a deal at all. so i told the guy we could work something out but im not giving it away for 30 bucks. so what does he say? "that's fine ill just scrap the 3 LE rims and make my money back."
am i the only one that thinks this is a super messed up thing for him to do? i understand its not his fault cuz he didn't know i paid for half of it... but saying hell scrap LIMITED EDITION RIMS because i won't give it away to him.. sorry guys, this really made me mad and i needed to vent. and on top of that, i was being super polite and respectful then i get his wife calling me cussin me out saying im trying to rip people off saying i don't know who you know in the Mazda world but we are the Mazda world. the whole time we communicated they just treated me nasty and were super hostile when im the one who got screwed here, and all i did was text saying hey i gave the guy you bought that car from half the money for it already so please give me a call so we can work something out for us both to be happy. is this common or is it just a couple local ppl I've dealt with? i love these cars but seems to be little to no respect from the few ppl I've talked with, they just get rude and hostile and insist they know more about rotaries.. which shouldn't matter to fellow Mazda guys.. really hope my next experience with a Mazda guy is positive with actual respect

He ain't a Mazda guy, he's an asshole. And that's all there is to it.

Shouldn't you be chasing down the guy who originally owned the 2 Rx7s for your $150? Sounds like a clear case of theft. And I hope he gave you a receipt for the money or some other means of proof.

First, why didn't you get the deposit back if he sold it out from under you? Seems like theres
some missing back story here.

Second, if I just bought a car and someone texted me out of the blue claiming to have paid for
half of it already, I wouldn't be very polite either.

Its unfortunate that you lost your money for whatever reason but then to go and bug a 3rd
party about it like you owned half the car seems silly to me.

Your issue regarding the deposit is with the seller, not the buyer - he's not responsible for what the seller did, though if you can prove your case you may be able to get the car eventually, or at least get your money back.

If you have a receipt for your deposit that identifies the car, you should contact a lawyer or the police; the seller has broken laws here.

If you don't have a receipt for the deposit, hate to say it but you just paid the "stupid tax." You've no legal recourse. NEVER give someone money for anything without a written receipt, unless you're okay with the money disappearing.

The "4th" rim is yours to sell for whatever you want to sell it for, or anything else you want to so with it. The other three rims belong to their owner, and he's free to do what he wants with them, too - no matter how screwed up it looks to us Mazda enthusiasts. Property is property.

Just how much time went by between the agreement to buy the car and paying the money, and the seller finding another buyer?
If you entered into an agreement that included paying the rest of the funds and removing the car by a certain date, and failed to keep up your end of the deal, then it is 100% your fault and you should just suck it up, sell the wheel to the new owner for whatever you can get, and chalk it up to experience.
If there wasn't a set time limit to finish paying for, and removing the car, but it had been more than a "reasonable" length of time, then the seller is justified in selling to someone else.

On the other hand, if you paid your money, and the seller sold it to someone else within the duration you were supposedly given to finalize the deal, then you have a right to gripe. But, your gripe is with the seller, not the buyer.

yes I understand that it is not the buyers fault and it is not his problem. i was dumb and never had him write out a reciept for the other car, so i guess it is kind of my fault. a few weeks did pass, but the car didn't have brakes and had flat tires and wasn't running so i was trying to come up with the money to rent a trailer. so, i guess the missing part of the story would be that i had to buy xmas presents for my family and its been super snowy out, not exactly ideal conditions to tow a car or even pull a trailer. so you guys are right its sort of my fault. i was more just venting about how disrespectful and rudely i was treated, and that this guy seriously said he was gonna scrap limited edition rims. in the future i should make sure to get something in writing. he was asking 700 for the pair and i gave him 500 for one, and said ill give you the other 2 next weekend. then found out i needed a trailer, then the snow came. so, there is probably nothing i can really do about it, it just felt good to get it off my chest haha

so yes, it was definitely my fault, but the buyer was pretty much insisting that i sell him the rim for 30 or give it to him cuz the seller "told him he could have that rim"
but like you said above, its my property. it came with the car i picked up first. i should have only gaven him the 350 not 500 cuz without a reciept im screwed now
thanks for the input guys!

also, due to snow and not having the cash for a trailer, in my opinion the few weeks that went by was completely justifiable. its not like i just blew the guy off, i legitimately had no way to get the car

I'm putting snow tires on a set of LE wheels for rallycross... am I a bad person? :uhh: They're already pretty chipped up from the original owner. I have another pristine set that I'm putting my R compounds on, no dirt for those!

If I end up keeping the 4x110 wheel pattern instead of the TII swap I plan on soon I will be getting LE rims from someone locally
