SA Vert on ebay

sold for $500-ish. Sadly, all it is worth. Have seen better conversions, but rarely SA, most were FB.
Certainly compliments the lines of the body.
Brave undertaking for someone...

There's at least a little bit of FB in this car Stu, with the wheels seats and storage bins. Brave undertaking is putting it mildly. And they saved the old top! Stored conviently under the fabricated deck lid. Wonder if it's a powered hardtop? This would be the first convertable hard top w/a sunroof option that I've ever seen.

that thing looks terrible. ive seen WAY better. a 12 yr old with a sawzall could have done better. but for 500 bucks, its still worth a look. its a good start for someone who doesnt want to butcher their own SA

DivinDriver 08-03-12 10:04 AM

Stu! Where ya been, ol' son?

DivinDriver 08-03-12 10:10 AM

The rear cover was made from another first-gen hood... and looks like it may have fit a lot better before it got that big dent in the middle.

Somebody tried their best on that one. May not have worked out, but it's clear they tried. I bet it was fun to tool around in while it lasted.

mazdaverx713b 08-03-12 10:10 AM

not a huge fan of it. poorly done and a waste of a sunrise red SA.

The frame flex must have been insane!! :shocking:

StormBeforeDawn 08-04-12 12:06 AM

So as to the haters on this, what makes it a poor job? It looks like the car has some fun lines, and in general, the idea looks surprisingly good. There are dents that are making the job look poor.

Wow, nevermind. Did some looking. Ultima's, PA's fun stuff. I was just born too damn late, I missed all the fun cars.... I had no idea that this sort of conversion was done "professionally" in the past.

Verts are piss poor performing machines from the factory (PERSONAL OPINION!!!). Convertables either FLEX like hell, or have soooooo much beef added to the frame, to stop the flex, they are over weight.

What makes this a poor car is that the PO most likly didn't have the forsight to weld in more suport (I don't see any). SO if one was to drive this thing you could probably tie a string to points on the frame and watch the flex as it drives.

EDIT: I love the wires to hold the licence plate on. LOL

Interesting concept. Not a huge fan of it, as the non-convertible SA and FB look so much better in my opinion. I love the roof line, it just sits with the body perfectly in my opinion. Looks like someone did try, but I wouldn't be interested in buying it, or driving it, or ever think of making something that looks like that.

you mean the sawzall cut lines, and warped half assed trunk lid, didnt give it away? lol its been done WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better, this is just a waste. or as i said a good jumping off point for someone to do it right and doesn't want to ruin their car.

Tamerlane's Thoughts: Mazda RX7 FB Convertible

You guys see a pile a crap all I see is hard to find metal for a restoration project. 1/4s are solid motor is intact, and other then the roof being gone a shit load of panels I that can be reused

Like Miatas? :egrin:

(Just jerking your chain... I've never personally owned a vert of any kind.)

I was gonna say that, but I didn't wanna rain on anybody's parade.

I've drivin a convertable Z28 and a Miata... The miata was fine enough I guess, but the little engine had no ass. The Z28 was esentially a potato chip with groans and creaks everywhere. (I really belive it was just a camaro with Z28 badges)

Would have made a cool Chump Car or 24hrs of Lemons. It at least fits the price point.
