Rotary Fever resurfaces:My new 1982 GSL

After a long long time away I'm back to another rotary. I've had a 10th Anniversary and an 87 TII but I had the itch to get an FB and play with a 12a and carbs. I cannot believe i found one with basically everything I was wanting to do alreasy done. If anyone knows this car please let me know, I'd love to find who orignally put the carbs on it. Its a 1982 GSL with Rotary Engineering dual 36 dcd weber carb set up, full Racing Beat exhaust, Racing Beat springs with Tociko Blue shocks and a 3 piece spoiler. Just drove it over 2 hours home today and am already in love. Can't wait to learn all about this car and make it my own. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...25e4da8a37.jpg

The car does look fantastic!!! What more could you ask for in a solid driver? Those are all the performance upgrades I'd want in one. I think you did great with this purchase!!

Thanks. It does look great, especially being 35 years old.

It looks freaking amazing!! One of the cleanest FB's I've seen in some time! Well bought! Where did you find the car?

That is really clean. Great looking example of a lightly modded FB :)

A younger gentleman in Wisconsin had it. He owned if for 4 years. Previous owner put the intake/carbs on it.

What a spectacular example! The car really looks to have been well cared for! It seems you are doing a great job as its new owner!

What are your plans with it now that you own it? Just curious :D

I was originally looking for a shell to build into something inspired by the 1979 24 hours of Daytona cars but that may have to wait for 2 main reasons. 1: I spent more money in a running driving car vs a shell and 2: this thing is clean! I'm deciding how much I want to change on this one for now. I still want to do a ported 13b n/a widebody/flarred but I may start with just freshening everything up, some seats and a steering wheel. That way I can go back to stock if I ever change my mind. I would like that race car feel in the cockpit but I'm not feeling the urge for lots of power or anything. I quite enjoy the engine setup as it is. I've never has an N/A let alone a carbed 12a but it feels good and it fun to drive.

It looks beautiful man. I think I have the same model.

Did they have different interior upgrades? Apparently mine is also a GSL but it's got the plain black vinyl door cards, bucket vinyl and velvet seats, no grey cloth or even comfy seats like that :/ Makes me think he tried to upsell it as.a GSL despite being a GS I think or even just a S. Don't want to taint his name or image, but...

Car looks great!

I think that dual carb setup is not really what you want in a 12a so it's better to sell it to me and upgrade to the RB Weber or Holley setup. :D

I wouldn't change a thing. Its so period correct and its a stunning example of a well cared for and solid driver. If I were you I'd go buy another cheaper car that has some issues to sort out. One that if modified with a wide body kit and a such will not lose value and originality. I see examples often for under $1000 that would be great to build. This car IMO, is just too perfect to build. But this is coming from captain originality haha. I can't remember when I bought a clean car and modified a thing. I keep all of my cars bone stock. My 80 LS was the exception because as clean and original as it is, a rotten exhaust had to be replaced. And with none other than a complete Racing Beat exhaust, lol.

clean FB

Looks great, clean car.

Get a proper fan shroud!! I know it is cold now and wasn't warm when you bought it, but you should have it for the spring/summer.

Cooling fan relies on fan shroud t function and it also pulls air through your oil cooler.

TwerkItOnMars 11-19-17 12:36 PM

Beautiful car! I may have a fan shroud for a 12a laying around in storage, I will need to check if you are interested.
