Recommendations for fitted car cover?
Newly painted '85 GSL, and I need a car cover for it.
Any recommendations? It's likely to get rained on so I need something waterproof that won't result in damage to the new paint job. Input appreciated. |
Haven't ordered one yet, but here are a few options.

Went thru several "mid-priced" covers ($100-200) that quickly became squirrel-nest fodder, as well as heavy and so-so construction. Then discovered CoverCraft Weathershield HP:
Weathershield HP Car Covers - Covercraft Weathershield HP All Weather Car Cover A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! I live in Alaska and my car sits outside year-round - and all winter under this. It is fabulous! Super-light like rip-stop nylon (its not) so quick and easy fit (custom). Squirrels/varmints HATE it. And it rolls into compact roll for easy storage (most other covers are VERY bulky!!). Sheds water like a duck. Only one that I have found you can wash and dry in home machines (yep- other covers need to go in commercial laundromats - to big for home). Great warranty - in fact the first one I bought stopped water-beading after 8 mo and they replaced it free under warranty. No prob since on 4-yr old cover. Can't say enough good things. Car looks like new every spring when I pull the cover. Bought one for my Saab 9000 too. Super cover. Stu Aull 80GS Alaska |

If only I had the money.... I'd definitely go with this one. I'm shopping for one as well but will probably have to go with the tarp treatment.
Plus the ALASKA thing, those are perfect proving grounds for an outdoor cover. TARPS: DON'T! -no air flow-thru so condensation + summer heat will boil your paint off the car!!!! Proper covers actually let air and moisture breathe thru. very important!!! -finish of material is too rough - slightest winds will chafe off the paint finish. Best/cheap bet is ebay for cheapie covers in generic "small car" sizes. $25-60 or so. Crappy, fragile, but do breathe (and squirrels LOVE them !). Just figure on yearly replacement.... Better than nothing. Stu Aull 80GS Alaska |
7aull, Do you have a picture of yours covered? (without snow :))
What color did you get? Notice any fading? |

Not my best (since I tend to photograph it with OUT the cover). Saab cover behind is same brand.
Gray-blue color. If it has faded I can't tell, but we don't get the sun you guys do. Can't say enough about these covers tho.... blotchy appearance is compression of image, not cover colors Stu Aull 80GS Alaska |
I was mostly interested in what the fitment looks like. Thanks :icon_tup:
