does that do anything? our cars dont have rear struts so a rear strut bar isnt going to do the samething as it would on a car with 4 wheel independent suspension.

^ correct.

The idea behind an actual strut brace is to lessen the deflection of the chassis that it sees in cornering, thus providing a better, more solid feel to the driver as well as allowing the suspension to start working the way it should sooner. When the chassis deflects it takes that much more time for the suspension to being to react, which means turning in sooner so the car will react when you need it to, and then the car will take longer to settle into the turn, meaning when it's time to exit the car is still settling and your waiting to put the power down instead of putting it down when you need it. Bracing the tops of the dampers will not do anything as they are not a part of the chassis structure and only see load from their own compression and extention. The area they are mounted is not a load bearing section and that bar is really only adding weight. This is why companies such as RE-Speed and Racing Beat have never offered a rear bar. A good manufacturing company investigates what is necessary to improve the car and builds parts to do so, but will not sell parts that have no effect other than "Hey guys, check out my totally awesome and useless rear strut bar". If you want to stiffen up the rear end of the car a 4 point weld in roll bar is your best bet.

dbssr1212 07-22-09 09:14 PM

alright well besides a roll bar what else could you do to stiffin up the ear end

orion84gsl 07-22-09 09:19 PM

Nothing. The rear of these cars is pretty stiff out of the factory. Just check out the monstrous spring perch reinforcements. Your money is better spent on things like RE-Speed suspension bits and poly bushings. If you want better reaction go full poly in the rear end and you'll love it. It's cheaper than going with OEM rubber bushings and you'll notice a huge difference in the way the car drives over bumps, cruises on the highway and initiates a corner.

so how about the respeed bushings which package is better the complete or the "respeed" package

the bushings are completely stock in mine and they don't look that good.

Complete package is the best. That is what is in the picture in the back.

And I am all with the other guys about how it does nothing. But still, who else has a rear strut tower bar? I bet you would say the same thing about my back seats too :D

PS - Bar was made by CP Racing.

I like the bar and the rear seats. My concern is more about the dirt.

Lol. I swear the rear trunk carpet is tainted or something, I can vacuum it for an hour and it still looks the same. The back seats forward I have to work on.

Then it would be alright. If it were me, and I were to put rear struts on a first gen, it would be with the 2nd gen rear end or with a SC thunderturd rear end.
