Does rare aftermarket count ?
I have a red reflective rear finisher (the panel that goes between left and right rear lights) that DOES NOT read "Rx-7". I ordered it unmarked because for crying out loud, how many times around the car does it need to announce Mazda or Rx-7 ? I have never seen another one. |
Ok, here are some pictures of tonneau covers that I have found. The first two look like they mount to the ceiling and cover the rear windows. The last one is like a typical SUV cover and rolls up.

I don't have a picture but apparently it was a chrome bar that mounted to the metal trim that holds down the carpet. I am quessing that it is 5 of 6 inches high and kept luggage from sliding into the rear seats or on top of cargo bins. |
Seeing that i have a genuine GT-X my list includes:
- original turbo and savannah badges - original savannah mats (black with red stripe) - original sales slip from when it was new in Japan - original adjustable Bilsteins - I actually have 2 complete sets of rear seats And of course, a genuine 12A Turbo, GT-X version with the later "impact" turbo. The only thing the car doesnt have, is a sunroof and leather seats. |
You all got me beat, but i'll still give my 2 cents...
-Glass Sunroof -Original FLoor Mats -ALL Service Records From 1987-Present (Including Oil Changes Every 4000km) -I got the 3 piece stereo with the EQ and tape deck, and the fader by the window switches (Is that common?) -I'm the ONLY one i know with functioning headlight washers :D And.... This seems to be a rare combo; Silver Exterior with grey cloth interior. I didnt like the black, or maroon interiors, they seem to fade. But my grey trim seems to have held up nicely againt the elements. |
12a 6 port breather cover ....

Oh, yeah... I got a power steering pump I pulled from a GSL. GOt a LSD rear end from the same car, but it's rusting away. I know the good third member is in there, though.

^^ i dont know if i would really call thoesparts rare
|
any other rare parts? this thread really shows some rare stuff!
|
love the fender mounted mirrors....i plan on doing this once i repaint my car and add fender flares....and YES i will reinforce the fenders under it to help with the vibration dont worry. It will be a piece of cake...my dad has been doing body/paint work for like 35+ years.
|
Are we only talking stock parts?
I have the rear spoiler Targa Band Headlight sprayers (Canadian thing I think) And I have an after market Weber 40IDF and intake manifold, and I've never seen another RX-7 on here with one. |

How about a sun-shade rear glass spoiler, my brother got it for his GLS-SE @ the Mazda dealership in Puerto Rico when he got the car. and he later gave it to me when he sold the car:D
|
i have a rear seat in my 85gsl and twin weber down draft carbies. oh and glass sun roof with the cover... i pulled the flywheel, rad./fmoc and heater pipe from a 81-82 body to use on my 85gsl... these might not be to rare but knowing the combo and having the combo on this car makes it rare... did i ever tell ya'll i love my 7??? it ain't painted up and pretty, but i have had it for a long time.. i bought it from the second owner, and we get along real good...

Nobody ever said the rare parts had to be stock...
I've got an ISCRacing airbox. I got it shortly before they stopped listing it on their site and don't know if they're available anymore. Mine is the only car I've ever seen with one, or one like it. My clear/opaque taillights are one of only 3 made like them. IoTus made a set for his car (that he sold, don't know who has it now), one set for DirectFreak and a set for me. An immaculate condition Canadian owner's manual, printed in both official languages (English/French). There can't be many of those still in good condition. I had a stock block heater. I threw it out because it was useless on my summer car, but it probably would be rare. It was the strangest thing, like a metal heating element that bolted around rotor1's spark plugs. Ron Davis aluminum radiator. I don't know who else has one, but can't be many people. In fact, there wasn't even a picture of it on the website until after they made mine! That about sums up my rare parts unless Dan Atkins' lenses, powdercoated + rims or FD alts with dual v-belt pulleys are rare. Oh yeah, and a glass sunroof, of course! Jon |
|
i have original floor mats, mazda dealer installed aluminum louver, clarion premium sound system
|
IMSA lip and early-'79 hood with the right-side hood-prop.

Jon Also an aftermarket rearseat, I have yet to see another like it. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2333/...3c97cb.jpg?v=0 |
I have a set of 83 LE wheels on my car (with the center caps, and special lug bolts), an original Mazda IMSA 3pc spoiler, the window sticker from my 83 S, and the owners manual (not that rare I know).
I had the IMSA air dam at one point, but sold it (wish I hadn't) I'm sure I have some other random stuff, but those are the main parts. |
all I have is some lovely JDM rust.

These items mentioned before, but I have original window sticker, shop manual purchased at the same time as the car (82), and the original Clarion stereo with equalizer (still works fine)
|
i also have a set of original Mazda rotor wheels

Unsure how rare these keystone rims are:evilgrin: …but I haven’t seen another set yet and there missing the center caps :crying: . And there on an LS (that’s rare too)
|
Probably the only rare part that I've got is the glass sunroof on my 83 GS. And it isn't really all that rare. I still love it though. :D
|
My spare wheel is in mint condition, I don't think its ever been used. Original owners manual, service book. Does an intact rats nest count? ;)
My '7 will be clicking over to 100,000 Kms today on the way home from work :( |
my LS spare in my hatch is mint. hell still has factory rubber on it!
|
My 79 and 80 have the original, never used spares. The 79 even has the tire tool with it. I have the red piece between the taillights on the 80 that says Mazda RX-7. I have all the original paperwork for the 80 including the Cali emmisions information (all the books are mint). I have the jack and tire tool for my 83. Original Clarion stereo for the 82. Don't know how rare these things are, but I thought they were cool! There is more, but too much to list...
|
I have an '82 GS-L, fed by the 650cif holley carb and Arkay turbo kit with the Rajay blower, with all the original installation instructions and all information on the Kas Kastner RX-7 project and horsepower gains of the set-up.
I'm not sure how rare this kit is, but the turbo just went, so I'll need a replacement if I even want to drive it again, as the carb just drowns the engine. I've got both styles of sunroof, solid and glass, so I'm not sure if anyone can consider them 'rare'. |
Well I finally got around to taking pictures of some of what I think are rare parts.
Horn Button http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...an1210/009.jpg Can you say... Burberry Seats? :rlaugh: http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...an1210/008.jpg Rims rims rims!! I have a set of 4, all in the same condition. :icon_tup: http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...an1210/007.jpg |
Those seats are the PIMP
I think those might be the coolest thing I saw on this thread. |

My SA has the 4 Speed trans in it. I know that's probably getting harder to find. My 83 S came with Steelies, all 4 centercaps, and Mazda wheel covers. I've never seen another 7 with the wheel covers.
|
Can of touch up paint from Mazda, thats about the only thing I have that I dont see listed here...
I would kill for an SA with a 4-speed, I found one not that long ago. It was really rusted out, and I asked the owner of the property about it, said a friend of his was storing it. He said he would talk to him about it, the next day I drove by and it was gone.... :( |
Forgot to mention the SA has the original Clarion AM/FM radio with no cassette deck. Still works great too, but only thru 1 speaker LOL

Druken, I suspect your horn button and wheels are from pre-7 Mazdas. I'm under the impression that Mazda dropped the Hiroshima Motors logo before the 7s were introduced. I'm not sure when they changed the corporate name to Mazda or if the 2 coinsided.
I have a few rare parts. They are either dealer options, like the center finisher for the tail lights and the luggage bar, or after market like the wheels an Kaminari kit. Dealer option finisher and luggage bar. Bought these off eBay a number of years ago. And no the center piece is not for sale but I will make some if enough members want one. https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...1&d=1201162665 15" rims, left one is an SSR, right one is an Epsilon. Have a full set of 4 for each and not for sale, lol. https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...1&d=1201162665 This is the Kaminari kit. I have 4 of the 5 original pieces. Missing the rear diffuser that goes under the rear bumper. This kit and the Epsilons will eventually go on the turd brown GSL that will some day replace the FC as my DD. https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...1&d=1201162665 |
Any UK owners here? I'd like to see more of the Elford Turbo RX-7s.
I love this front spoiler. Too bad it was only sold in the UK and in limited quantities. http://homepage.mac.com/jolocho/elford.jpg |
Id like to see an original Pacific Turbo, those must be rare as f**k...
If we are talking wheels, I have a set of Riken meshies, and they are getting hard to come by... I would love a set of gold ones... but I dont have the cash to drop on them right now. |

as per request, heres a shot of my set of staggered SSR's. they were offered in japan for non -se 7s for a few years in the mid 80s. they are true 3pc 14s, fronts in 8in rears in 8.5in. shortly after production ssr stopped making the RS-8 and they were discontinued until the late 80s early 90s when RSwatanabe picked up the molds and now make them in 14-18in sizes isaac |
forgot to mention that i too have pieced together an all original clarion premium stereo system with fully working equalizer, electronic tuner/cassette tape deck, joystick, amps, speakers.. all original all working sounding niceee
