This is a little premature, because I still have to do coilovers and the RB exhaust that's coming in the next few weeks, but I wanted some first opinions on the work I've been doing lately. Enjoy....:icon_tup:

pretty sweet, I do recommend you get a hatch without the windshield wiper and get a glass sunroof, it had much much more sex appeal lol. I like your intake set up too. good luck!

Portland82GSL 08-11-09 11:10 PM

I have the glass sunroof, I just didn't take off the body color roof after I washed and waxed the bitch up.

RotoricanNY 08-11-09 11:20 PM

ah sweet

nice i have a weber with a sidedraft

Portland82GSL 08-12-09 12:04 AM

I was flip flopping between the DCOE and the Dellorto for a while, but the right deal came at the right time. Sidedrafts sound super badass though. I love mine. That+Gilmers is an awesome sound.

Jeezus 08-12-09 12:48 AM

Get rid of that AC!

Also, where did you get your gilmer? tweakit?

Portland82GSL 08-12-09 12:52 AM

oh, yeah. I forgot to mention that. I need to find an A/C shop to evacuate all the R12 out of the system, and then its gone. BELIEVE ME, I know its just taking up space and adding weight. Yes, I did get it from tweakit, and it is performing beautifully. Well worth the arm and leg I had to sell to get it shipped over here. :icon_tup:

thunkrd 08-12-09 02:07 AM

damn i want a gilmer...

Landon303 08-12-09 08:02 AM

Dudde that thing looks to be coming along well. Upgrade that brick of a exhaust manifold! Have fun m8

Rotarx7 08-12-09 11:26 AM

oohh gilmer pulleys! ill trade you those for some headers. hahah.. just kidding

t_g_farrell 08-12-09 12:10 PM

The MR2 fans look sweet as does the Dell. I have to say I'm a bit
biased but that setup will rock! Especially once you get a header
with a free flowing exhaust setup.

Oh and on the Dells get rid of the intake socks, they'll restrict you
flow, you need to put a larger K&N on there. I think there need to
be like 2" of head room from the top of the velocity stacks to the
top of the filter canister so the the flow isn't restricted. Thats why
the RB setups had the largest they could fit on there.

Portland82GSL 08-12-09 01:28 PM

Wow, thanks for all the compliments guys. I can't wait to get the header etc. on there.

tg Farrell: I was wondering if those socks would restrict air flow. I'll go get the K&N filters ASAP. Its funny that we're going to have almost the exact same setup (according to your sig) when I'm done. How is the RB SP exhaust working out for you?

Its working excellently in fact the butt dyno thinks I picked up some horses. I had it dynoed with the RE system on there and got 135 whp out of it. The RB setup is less restrictive and a bit louder so it mayadd some ponies.

That gilmer setup is pretty but I not my style unless I put a SC on it :)

yetterben 08-12-09 06:13 PM

i hate to rain on your parade but that gilmer......its gonna destroy your motor. dig around and find out why. I warned yah.

Give yah one hint. e-shaft snapping.

Portland82GSL 08-12-09 06:21 PM

I consider myself warned, and I really have no intention of starting a war over gilmer vs. twin belt etc., but as long as its balanced correctly with spacers, it won't be a problem. I must admit that I am in no way shape or form a rotary EXPERT, however, before I ordered the pulleys, I talked to several local rotary shop owners, and they have all backed me up on this claim. I have a hardened E-shaft as well. Again, thanks for the concern, and if it ever DOES snap the e-shaft, I will pm you to let you know you're right. lolol

yetterben 08-12-09 06:23 PM

Hey atkins told me as well as several forums in oz report problems as well. I dont care just thought i would throw it out there. Also has to deal with rotor bearings. You know just as i do how much load you put on that belt to get it tight so it does not walk off at 8 grand.

yetterben 08-12-09 06:34 PM

i see its gotcha yah searching. I researched one too back in the day from tweakit. i ended up no doing it because it was not worth the risk. I have installed several on sbc and such they usually go on with about 60-70lbs of deflection. Thats alot of stress on a e-shaft and its bearings. not to say what it does to the balance at 6-8k

I have had two high dollar setups and it just was not worth the risk to me it may be to you.

Upon several threads on some forums from oz and kiwi land and seeing broken shafts walked bearings and such it was just not worth it. ymmv.

Not to mention stress on wp and alt internals. burning up alts would suck wp BIG time suck.

I dont want a war either just throwing it out there. You car looks sweet nice build.

Portland82GSL 08-12-09 06:50 PM

thanks man. I appreciate the concern. I'll do some more searching def. The good news is, being a daily driver, I don't get that many chances to take it up that high in the revs due to speed cameras and such. I'm taking it in to the shop next week, so I'll see what the deal is then.

yetterben 08-12-09 07:54 PM

yeah no problem. i just wanted you to be aware that it COULD happen.

orion84gsl 08-13-09 08:24 PM

Looks great. Grab some wheels for it so it has the right stance when you get the coilovers on.

'87 turbo II 08-13-09 08:59 PM

I have the exact same intake setup. Keep the sock filters, K&N no longer makes a filter in the right size for the Dell, they make one, but the top plate sits like 1 inch away from the velocity stacks and you lose some punch in the top. I have a K&N filter and uni sock filters and the socks flow better, unless you buy a custom K&N and cut the holes for the stacks as well as the bolting holes then make some gaskets out of cereal box cardboard. Anything longer than 6 inches will hit the oil filler neck, anything shorter than 4 will restrict flow. I am jealous of the MR2 fans and Gilmer belts, but that setup is pretty much what I have otherwise, only I'm running a 13B with RB exhaust (you'll love it when you get it!) I think you will be very pleased, these side drafts are amazing.

Portland82GSL 08-13-09 10:05 PM

I already love the intake. I totally rips. I am still breaking the engine in (only 200 miles left), and I can't wait to hear how it sounds at full throttle. I actually just scored a deal on some diamond racing 15x8 steelies. Need to find rubber that will fit in the stock fender wells. I'm not too interested in rolling the fenders or getting ZG flares although they would look sweet! Any of you guys have ideas as to what size rubber I should roll with?

thunkrd 08-13-09 11:38 PM

195 front 215 in back.

get your coilovers and buy some camber plates. you'll be able to fit the front easier
