People are strange ... and yet awesome

Since I have started working on reviving my 85 GS I have had some of the strangest experiences with my local community. Almost as soon as I had it towed to the shop for the initial "get it running" phase I started having people stopping by where I work asking me about it, and telling me how cool it was I was getting it going. People I'd only ever spoke to in order to sell them something, or in a couple of cases never even met. How they even knew it was my car, let alone that I was getting it running and where I worked was just crazy. I've had random people just walk up to me and start quoting statistics, or how fun it was to drive their mother's 7. Keep in mind the car was in the shop, I hadn't driven it in close to 6 years, and these were people I barely knew in passing if at all.

These beauties mean something, and its kind of cool to know its not just me. The other day somebody showed up where my wife works, and starts asking about the car her husband is working on. Asking if it was an RX-7, and then telling her about the '90 project car they got for her son, but her son has decided it too much of a project for him, so would we be interested in it. So my wife asks what she wants for since she knows I would eventually like to have one of each generation. She tells her its ours if we want it, we just have to come get it, it has 2 engines, lots of parts, just pull it away.

So now I have a '90 GXL to work on restoring after I finish my '85. It does in fact have 2 engines, one is street ported, torn apart and cleaned, all the gasket sets, everything. It came with full interiors and some things tripled. I have at least 2 of everything except the main roll body, and up 6 of some parts.

Anybody else have a community come out of the woodwork, or have experiences like this?

:( Only had a porsche fan tell me that I had a nice 944. Some fan.

Congrats on the free ride though, nothing like getting greasy!

When I backed into a parking spot beside this white 300M with nice, aftermarket chrome rims, I looked at the eldery gentleman walking towards it and said "Nice rims." He gave a small smile in acknowledgement and began to tell me how much fun our cars really are, and said how he used to mess with them a long time ago. Amazingly, these cars have some definite history. And, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Yeah in telling my grandpa of my purchase of my 7, he told me a story about it. I knew some basics since having it for a day and then he for sure filled me in on all the details of how it works and what the internals look like. He was an Engineer so of course he knew everything. Good to find that stuff out for free

Wow, wacky, bringing some cheer to the rest of us, huh? Tell me, do you lurk behind other 7's and and dress up as the Grim Reaper with a big rotor inside a red circle with a red slash going through it, too?

When I first got my 7 I had told my dad about it he called me the next and he had been taling about my 7 to some people at work. Apparently a guy that he works with used to race 7's all the time and gave me a whole bunch of good info on suspension. Who knew the 60 year old DNR worker used to race 7's every week at the local drag.

Can't always judge a book by its cover. Or, a ship by its hull. Or, wacky by his....okay, I'm at a loss for words here. ;)
