and the last page ......

Over 200 views and no comments????? I guess I'll start the ball rolling. Not the article I would have written because it had too much irrelevant personal nostalgia and not enough Rx7 reflection. But it is 7 pages in a premier automotive magazine (in itself an endangered species) and the last paragraph says it best. The 1st gen is the best of the series because of it simplistic honesty and affordability. People quickly forget how truly awful cars were in the early 1980s. And Mazda made too many of them for the collector crowd to be interested.

your timing was great on this. i have been trying to remind myself to go get some magazines now that i can start getting them again. thanks for posting it. i will go out and try to find it now. i haven't actually read through it yet, but i was struck by his comment on engine longevity (i hope i didn't read it out of context) and also the differences in engine output specs between the UK and here.

Nice Jim - thanks for posting the whole story!!
Nothing new here, but then, we are the Converted. Still, always nice to see it treated kindly by those who drive more powerful and / or modern Motors. This article is actually a bit more "enthusiastic" than other recent ones I have come across (by "recent" I mean "this Century"). The simple chassis usually gets an upturned nose, inspite this authors declaration its quick and fun in the corners. Usual slap on engine life, but I suppose it must have happened enough times to enough people that they feel the need. Or is it a persistent, life-of-it-own rumor? ;) we know otherwise.

Nice-if-true rumor about pending new RX7 in '17. Expect to see a whack of "revisits" to the Original if this comes to pass. Gawd I hope they don't screw it up!

Agreed that the author prattles on at length about his personal life. I would have enjoyed more driving impressions. Thank you for posting the article. Good to see the FB getting some recognition, especially from a publication like EVO.

Always happy to see coverage of our cars... even if it's not of my car. :)
