As many of you know I had been fighting with my 7 for some time now. I got teh deposit friday and bought a new ride to play with. I wanna know what you all think.

TBH, sweet ride in the sense that its retro and unique, but fail because its not a 7.

blackdeath647 09-29-08 09:49 PM

mang, hate to hear about your 7, but that's a cool looking car, i've seen lots of those here lately, ..maybe it's a sign

Thats not a camo bonnet is it?

mazdaverx713b 09-29-08 10:54 PM

well those are not for me..i see them as a chick's car but thats my opinion. from the pics it looks like a really clean car. posting any pics of the interior or engine?

zenofspeed 09-29-08 11:01 PM

Well because my closest friend just sold his VW from hell (looks identical to yours), I can't say I'm happy for you. But that thing is really clean. Hopefully yours won't treat you like it did my boy... That was an Epic Failure.

My friend loved his '86 GTI. I would like them better if they weren't fail-wheel-drive.

Dont worry I am keeping parts to build a 12A for a possible project in the future. Namely a lotus 7 frame with a streetported 12A or a sandrail 12A. I ll post more pic after I get it cleaned and take it for a photo shoot.

I too have been hearing a calling from the brotherhood of the Locost. The temptation is irresistible. I think it's only a matter of time before I fall victim to it. I've already got two of the books, and have the chassis modeled in 3D on my computer. At one point I even considered using Rosie as the donor. She's just in too good of shape, and I couldn't bring myself to do it.

If only I had more garage space. :D Someday I'll probably buy a junked Miata and start building one.

Jamie

Jamie, instead of even considering using Rosie for a doner, find a $500 or less 7 that someone is parting with due to it being an unsalvageable rust bucket.. case in point: http://www.ohiorotaries.com/smf/index.php?topic=3049.0

Dave, the link isn't working...

Glazedham42 09-30-08 09:55 AM

Nevermind. I got it. :bigthumb:

mazdaverx713b 09-30-08 10:00 AM

just throwing that your way. who knows, it could spark a good project...and with the 81 comes the factory FMOC. i've had really good luck with 81-82 rotaries..

Kentetsu 09-30-08 11:29 AM

Dude, you've sold your 7 and bought a chick car! :( I hope you got visitation rights so you can still see your testicles from time to time... :)

You'll find no love for VW or Audi coming from my direction. They're great as long as they run, but I will never again try to take a wrench to one...

Glazedham42 09-30-08 12:01 PM

I have a soft spot in my heart for the cabrios, but mainly because the front looks like an old GTI. I could never bring myself to buy one. Mainly because of the criticisms you are currently facing. They just seem to be a girl's car. If you like it though, then I say more power to you.

It would certainly make a great sleeper car. Nothing would hurt anyone's pride more than getting wasted by a stock looking VW Cabrio. :D

mazdaverx713b 09-30-08 01:45 PM

well maybe losing to a hyundai excel or a minivan....

nick812 10-01-08 10:06 PM

I ll be the first to tell you this is a girls car. But it get 30+mpg its a convertable its kinda fun to drive.

mazdaverx713b 10-02-08 08:40 AM

30mpg speaks loudly in times like these. i get about 15mpg in my 8810AE and around 17 in my FB's. chick car or not you're still saving money on gas!

nick812 10-04-08 06:52 PM

This wont even be my DD. My DD is a camry that I can get 32-35 MPG in. I hope to keep this till spring then resale for alot more than I payed for it. I only paid 1k for it and runs and drives fine.
