Nikki rebuild issues

So when I bought my car it didn't have a carb on it. I sourced one from a local guy for cheap and have begun the rebuild but ran into a problem. I'm missing a gasket and I'm not entirely sure what the piece even is. One search I did said it is the altitude compensator, I have pictures included. My question is, can I just make an aluminum plate to block off or is this vital?

It's ok to block it off. It only works on a stock carb on a stock engine with stock exhaust and stock rats nest. And in my opinion, stock doesn't work all that well compared to deleting all the useless crap and tuning the air bleeds anyway.

You left the stock needles and seats alone. Right?

Oh the new aftermarket baseplate gaskets that fit between the main body and baseplate are a total joke. Way too thin for the application. Use it as a template on some thicker softer paper.

Well, regarding the compensator, the entire engine is still stock but that'll change soon enough.

The needles and seats though, I do have questions. I have the stock ones yes, but I haven't been able to find out why it's so vital to not replace these, just everyone says don't swap them.

For the gasket though, what would you recommend? Haven't done much of anything with gaskets before

The new needles and seats are not manufactured correctly and don't like to seat very well. This
causes flooding and overfilled bowls etc. Very annoying.

I use the blue gasket paper you find at auto parts stores. It is thick and soft. It absorbs oil from the OMP system over time though. When I find an oil resistant paper paper that is thick and soft, I'll be happy.

Well, I have the carb put back together (mostly), made a nice block off plate and I believe everything is correct on it. I am excited to test it and see if it works, but I have another issue to deal with first. The car was purchased without a gas tank and I have had no luck sourcing one so far, but the search continues. Thanks for the help guys!
