New Gls-se Owner! Just Bought It On Ebay!

Hey yall, FINALLY my name makes sense!

I used to own a GSL-SE when I was a teenager. Funnest car I've ever had.

Since then I've owned a '95 Mustang Cobra convertable and currently have a '90 Mustang 5.0 GT convertable.

My Stangs are REALLY torquey and I love the sound, but they ride like crap. Handling upgrades just make the ride worse.

I just bought this 7 off eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MEWN:IT&ih=019

What do you think? Any advice or suggestions?

I'm going to be driving the car from Iowa to California in December.

I think you made a great decision in buying a car that is great shape and thus dont have to spend oodles of $ to get it right. Congrats,
Scott

What? I was bidding on that car also I was contacted after the bidding and was told that the original bidder had backed out. He offered me the car for the last bid that I had put in.

Just kidding!:rlaugh:

Great score, congratulations.

NoPis10 10-17-07 09:22 PM

NICE!!!!!

If I didn't have 2 already I would have bid on that one as well....
Would have been nice to have a stock SE but 2 many projects to keep adding to the collection. I will be down to only one very soon so a stock one may be in my future...

I'm so excited to get back in the SE!

I haven't been in one in over 10 years.

First thing I'm going to do is install my Pioneer DVD headunit. Then install a subwoofer in the spare-tire well.

Thinking of the Racing Beat street-port exhaust system. I gather that it is quieter than the regular (2 pre-silencers instead of 1). Any thoughts?

Any suspension mods you recommend? I DO NOT WANT A ROUGH RIDE. I've had my fill of that with my Stang.

Maybe tint the windows.

Other than that, I really don't want to modify it too much.

Rx-7Doctor 10-17-07 09:37 PM

Drive it first and see how you like the suspension before you start modifying.

GSL-SEX2 10-17-07 09:40 PM

One thing I was wondering about is the oil consumption. The previous owner swears that it does not burn oil, but it only injects some during cold starts. Is this true? I've always been told that the rotary naturally uses oil for internal lubrication.

Here's what he said in the auction:
"Some ask about oil consumption. The Rotary has an oil injection system that keeps the engine from starting dry, so, the Rotary will puff blue smoke on stat up this is normal. We drive our RX7 less than 1,000 miles a year and I change oil every seasons end. To me it does what it is suppose to do, it does not burn oil in the sense of being troubled."

But there isn't anything "essential" to do with these cars?

Like, with Mustangs, you "have to" get upgraded rear lower control arms and a panhard bar. And it does make a big difference.

I've read that the 7 has a tendancy to understeer, and removing the rear swaybar helps. Any trade-offs?

I know it's gonna be worlds better than my Stang but I'm just thinking.

My 7 will be sitting in Iowa until Christmas, when I fly there and drive it back. Ugh waiting sucks.

They have a tendency to oversteer(back end swapping out), the 2nd gens had the understeer(plowing effect).
In 84 on all models they did a repositioning on the rear links that reduced the amount of oversteer. But if you want alot better handling then get the matched sway bars for the front and rear. The oversteer will be gone.

sweet car, i was actually looking at it earlier and wishing i had the cash to afford something like that, or to even get mine looking halfway decent.

Directfreak 10-17-07 11:25 PM

That is an amazingly clean car. I would not molest it at all.
Forget the DVD system and just add an iPOD adapter.

Upgrade the speakers, and add a small 8" bazooka tube.
Because of the hatch shape, an 8" Bazooka tube actually
gives ALOT of bass. You can even hide the tube UNDER
one of the rear bins.

That way it will look and act like stock, but get the sound you like.

It's a real nice ride, don't screw it up. The SE's really don't need anything. I wish I had a perfectly stock one to enjoy on a more
regular basis.

Enjoy her. Modify the Mustang, and leave that natual beauty as stock as possible.

that car is sex on wheels..... great buy

GSL-SEX2 10-18-07 12:23 AM

GSLSEX2 is gonna be my license plate.

LOL I'll have SEX on my plate.

KCGSLSE 10-18-07 12:34 AM

black w/ red interior?? BALLER!

Glazedham42 10-18-07 05:56 AM

That car is going to be a collector some day if you take care of it. An all original SE in that good of shape is tough to find. I'm with DirectFreak. You need to keep that SE original. Sure, a lot of us fill our 7's with speakers, and do junkyard mods on them. But 98% of ours aren't as nice as the one you just bought. Keep the 7 original, and mod the Mustang. You'll go faster for less money. And that way you can keep the 7 as a collector's item...

glewsRx 10-18-07 07:37 AM

The racing beat system is pretty nice, you need to get the GSL-SE system because it has the backpressure pickup tube that allows for the funtionality of the 5th and 6th ports. If you go another way you'll loss some low end torque. Not cool.
good grab on that 7. congrats

kmonto85 10-18-07 08:05 AM

Very nice ride! Glad it went to someone who will take care of it. We need more like you...

takhay 10-18-07 02:07 PM

Haha, i was looking at that 7 and wishing i had the cash to get it... 'grats to winning the auction, she looks AWESOME!

...I wish i was you...

Congrat's and welcome to the GSL-SE Club. There are a lot of "red interior haters" out there but I agree with KCGSLSE. A "Sparkling Black" GSL-SE with the "Red Interior" rocks!

Hello fellow new SE owner!

I found mine on Ebay but did not win it there. The reserve never reached, I contacted the owner and bought it from him directly.

I just got back from the DMV and will be putting the stickers on and taking some pics.

Yours looks like it is a tad better shape than mine...but mine is nice and stock. One owner for 22 years.

Congrats to you!

borinquen7 10-18-07 04:59 PM

congrads
Your gonna love her and hopefully be a fan for life, I know 8 rx7's again my first ride in my buddies 7 got me hooked. TAKE CARE OF HER...............

Directfreak 10-18-07 06:04 PM

Chief, what't that black bar in the passenger areas? Grab handle?

Seniorchief 10-18-07 07:56 PM

Directfreak- That black bar was installed by the original owner for his car-phone. Back in the day there were no "cell phones" and car phones were rather large. Never saw a reason to remove it and may find a use for it some day.

Unseen24-7 10-18-07 08:07 PM

wow i never realized how similar the GSL-SE is to the s4 FC. that interior, dash, center console, seats all look very similar to my FC...could just be because my interior is red too.

2nd gens have understeer?!?! I'd say FC's oversteer (a bit) too, at least that's how it feels to me.

GSL-SEX2 10-18-07 08:36 PM

Hey Senior, yours is pretty nice too. I totally dig your Oh Shit Handle!

BTW: I'm a FCC on the Reagan. Are you retired?
