Need some help identiving things

I am hoping someone can help with this. I have 1985 rx7 gsl-se. Other then the radio I'm trying to keep is as original as possible so:

1) In the first pic there is a white cube plus two other wires just like in the bin in the back to control light off/on. What are these for? It was like that when I got the car.

2) Is there a way to replace the light bulb behind the temperature knob or do I have to replace the whole cluster. (second pic attached)

The heat control knobs have a small bulb on each one, couldn't tell you the size.

They would have been connectors for an auto trans car. All 1st gen cars came with these plugs/wiring. Manual trans car? Disregard.
Second pic, bulb socket twists in with a 90 degree turn. One behind fan switch, one behind temp control knob. Take 14mm nuts, washers off shafts after removing knobs, plastic lenses can be removed and bulbs are directly behind, small fingers can pull bulbs directly from holders. Pair of duckbill pliers with vacuum hose put over jaws on pliers can be used to r&r bulb. Believe #74 bulb is what goes in there. Can be found at most auto parts stores. Pulls out and new one pushes in,just like a 194 side marker bulb, only smaller.

Thanks a lot for your answer. Exactly the kind of reply I was looking for. The plugs and wiring for auto transmission make so much sense now. I looked around on the internet and couldn't find what they were. As for the bulb I'm glad I asked as it doesn't look to bad now that I know it's a 90 degree turn. I'm going to try it right now.

Update: No luck getting the bulb out. I don't have as much time now with school starting but I will give it a shot again on the weekend. I don't want to break the bulb and it's really hard the grab it. Do I push in and rotate 90 deg? or just rotate 90 deg and push outward? Rotate counterclockwise to remove?

The bulb holder rotates ccw to remove from hvac panel. The bulb pulls straight from holder, pushes straight in to holder. They are delicate and suggest testing that lights work before full reassembly. Sometimes mild tweaking of wires on bulb/terminals in lite socket required for reliable operation. Will post couple pics when home from work.
The 1st pic shows the #74 bulb in foreground, its big brother #194 bulb behind for comparison. Pic of socket not clear as i'd hoped but you can see enough of what socket looks like.

Thanks for your help. Now for the first time ALL my indoor lights are working. I now just have to fix the pressure gauge. Only thing left on the car that doesn't work.

Welcome. oil pressure gauge? Make sure wire is securely attached to sender unit and no corrosion on terminal. Take connector/wire off sender and ground it-then turn key to run position just long enough to see if oil pressure gauge needle sweeps left to right. Turn key off before needle pins to hi side of gauge. If this test makes oil pressure gauge register then sender unit is defective and needs to be replaced. If not, could be the wire from sender unit to gauge or gauge itself. Most likely fault is sender or connection to it.
