Looking to buy an rx7

Hey I'm looking to buy another rx7 currently getting in contact with this guy http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/1324165497.html

The car looks good its got all I need buy the miles are very high and it will prbly need an engine rebuild within a year at most in guessing.

Do you think its worth it or should I keep looking?

from the description it sounds like the car was heavily used, not a big deal if you intend on rebuilding the engine but if this car was driven during winter months in the north east i would ask the owner for pictures of the wheel wells and undercarriage to check for the extent of rust damage if any...good luck and nice find...

Yeah the same thing I thought if he replies I will find out how the rust damage is and any idea how many miles these engines can hold if taken care of?

yeah if you look you can see rust on the front fender in front of the tire... I would wait and try to find the "right" one. Look for one more South of the rust belt or out West.

Part of the fun is the road trip to go get one.

What are you looking for?? Are you wanting an SE??? Do you like the "ugly" red interior??

Well I used to have an 85 gs pretty much stock really liked it but the rear axel was messed up and had idling problems which I almost fixed but had to give it up to get a more reliable all season car. Now that I got some money I want to get a new one preferably 84 or 85, I hoped it would be a 13b but I can settle for a 12a if the price is right. Just looking for a second car with some fun driving capabilities

Man that is a LOT of miles for the price IMHO. -SE can be a nice car, but these are the most complicated of the RX7s - the electronics on the injections system alone....! With that kind of mileage figure virtually ALL the soft parts are due for replacement: weatherstripping, hoses, gaskets, o-rings - and the car is FULL of these. I think you will suffer Death By a Thousand Cuts on a high-miler like this unless the owner can provide documentation showing some serious up-keep over the years.

That price is getting up to low mileage SA/FB RX7s (50-90,000mi) cars recently posted on ebay. These were listed in the $3000 range. Prices have actually DROPPED with the economy slump.

If you are really stuck on an -SE, fine, but look longer, spend a little more money. Its pretty simple really. Save a few $$ now, and be bled to death, or spend a bit more up front and save long-term.

be patient - a LOT of great cars with LOWER mileage and NO "stories".
best of luck
