how much are fuel filters supposed to cost

Autozone told me they could order a fuel filter for 21 bucks....mazdatrix had them for 40...is there a difference in their quality?...also mazdatrix had NGK sparkplugs for $8 a piece...are their prices too high?.....or is there product really worth the extra money?

Everyone marks up parts to make money. Some more than others due to volume of sales differences. Some sell different parts (OEM vs Aftermarket). Aftermarket companies make the same products but charge different prices. Just my two cents.

Mazdatrix can be a tad high on some parts. If you can order local on filters and plugs, do so. Also get on the Blackdragon.com catalog list.

He has a GSL-SE. That is why the fuel filter is expensive. $30-$40 is the normal going rate for those. I would recommend OEM (Mazda dealer or Mazdatrix). The aftermarket ones are kind of a crap shoot. Some are 'universal' and just have nipples on the ends to slide the hose over. However, the stock setup uses hardlines and banjo bolts. If you were to use a universal, you would have to buy more hose (FI rated) and rig something up. Not to mention, the bends required in the stock mounting position would cause kinks.

Now there are some aftermarket filters that will accept banjo bolts and mount just like stock. I recommend looking at mazdatrix to see what the stocker looks like and then tgo on rockauto.com or partsamerica.com to see what some of the aftermarkets look like. If you see one that looks like the stock one and is a good price, you can order there or get the part number and order from your local store.

partsamerica covers Advance/Shucks/Checker/Kragen stores. So if it is on the site, any of them should be able to get it.

Also, I did see that partsamerica has the NGK plugs for like $5.99 each, I believe they were $5.68 at rockauto.

I guess the "SE" part stands for " 'Spensive Edition?"
