Hi! New to the forum

Hi everybody just joined and am proud to now be in the Rx7 Family!

I have a 1985 Rx7 GSL. It was given to me a couple weeks ago by my grandma. It's been sitting in there backyard under 2 tarps for a looong while and she said if I wanted it and if I would fix it up its mine! So obviously I jumped on it. Its got some problems but i'm up for the challenge.

Not only am I new to the Rx7 family i'm also new to rotory engines. I've read a little here and there and understand the basic parts and principles. I could tell you alot about a piston V-8 (I know, I know, just don't kill me) but the rotory engine is something else. I have a 90 5.0 mustang GT, and I could tell you up and down about that..haha..

Now for those "problems" I was talking about.

The front end is pretty bashed in. Lets just say you drew a horizontal line between the firewall and front clip(looking from the top of the car). Now visualize everything below that line smashed to the left. I've got alot of pictures which i'll post here soon. It might hurt you so if some of you guys have a weak stomach I suggest you don't look. I've already looked into it and what I plan on doing is just hacking the front end off 4 inches from the firewall and replacing all of that.

I got a bit lucky though, the front end got smashed in right to the point that the radiator is barely touching the alternator. So the motor and everyhing following it didnt get pushed back. Obviously since it's been sitting for so long the motor is probably going to have to be rebuilt. I think its been sitting just a little while too long to do that "ATF Treatment" I read about. (<--See I'm already catching on. Haha)

Very Positive Things:

Only 21,500 miles on this car. The interior looks like you just got it off the showroom floor. The sound system(all stock, cassette player, equalizer, speakers and all) sounds like you just replaced it and i'll probably end up keeping it. All the seals(door, sunroof, hatch, etc.) looke fine and no dryrot. I can only find 2 small dents and 2 very small spots of rust on this whole car, beside the front, hahaha.. Doors open and close like a charm. No cracks or fading that I can find in any of the interior.

Ok I think i'll stop talkin now seeing as I have just about written a Story.

Pictures coming soon!!!

Oh one more thing...Any special words or lingo you guys use about these cars might help, so i know what in the heck your talking about!

Thanks! Jacob

Well welcome to the Rx-7 family and we won't bash you for owning a 5.0 Mustang, those are awesomely mean cars. I suggest you take a quick look over the FAQ and post any questions you have. I am glad you are fixing her up and I'm sure most of this community will be happy as well. Good luck with all the work and the best thing to do is to ask about lingo as you see it, as all car communities develop their own set of names for some things.

Im in Kannapolis. Its Northeast of charlotte like 25-30 minutes? Where is Millers Creek?

blackdeath647 07-07-08 12:27 AM

it's in wilkesboro, near boone(about 45 minutes away), at the foot of the mountains lol. ... about getting it started, once you're ready for that, i'm sure you you know to change all your plugs wires, gas, filters, oil, coolant. all that good stuff before hand. then i would squirt some seafoam in there and let it soak for a day or two and then turn it, hopefully that'll get you off and running w/out needing a rebuilt.

anyways, kannapolis, that's near moorsville right?, there's a meet there every 2nd sunday of the month at o'charlies, .... and there's a few of 7 owners who live around the charlotte area :D

Wow...thats cool....ill have to go check that out sometime..

Yeah its about 15 minutes to Mooresville Dragway and about 20 to actual Mooresville.

Speaking of the Dragstrip..I saw a 2nd Gen. last thursday night with a small block V8 run an 8.5 in the 1/8...
