help with wheel size and fitment please
 

Hi guys... I've been searching online for some time now and have decided to go with 8" wide wheels at front and 9" wide wheels at rear with 16" wheels... Has anyone on here done this to their FB??? if so what offset should I go with and tire size for my 85 GSL-SE??? Am not very familiar with wheel fitment so will rely on you guys for this info... I Apologize if this thread has been done before but can seem to find it on here... Thanks in Advance... 16x8 Fronts and 16x9 Rear... Need help with clearing suspension (offset) :scratch:

Those are gonna be a bit wide, I'm afraid. Even with 7 inch wide wheels with the just right amount of offset (20mm +) and running 205s the fenders have to be rolled to prevent rubbing issues, especially on the front. Clearance is very tight on the inside between the spring perch and the tire and on the outside with the fender. I wont say that you cant get the 8 inchers on there but there will be major rubbing, especially if you are gonnal lower it. I guess you could use a weird offset that pushes the wheels/tires out from under the fenders the way I see some people do, but with a 16 inch wheel they will rub something fierce.

Having difficulty finding those wheels tho, the way that fb looks is very appealing to me and wont stop searching for those wheels unless someone on here knows where one can start looking that would be very helpful for sure... in a few weeks am going to call repeed to get suspension setup coming my way... :nod:

I'm running 15x7 +7 offset Enkei 92's on my FB, and at full lock I rub on my RB springs. Fenders are rolled because the tires do rub (when the suspension compresses, under hard braking, under high cornering forces, too much weight in the back, etc.). You will need ReSpeed coils and some camber to get them to fit. Kentetsu has 13x8 Revolutions for his race tires...

Yes I am getting the ReSpeed Coils in a few weeks for that same reason, I cant wait now lol

I know coilovers will give you a little bit more room up front.

These are 16x9, +15mm, 4x114.3 bolts (gsl-se), with 195/60/16

I'd be curious to know how much clearance he has inside the wheel. I dont know a lot about wheel math, so perhaps one of the more learn-ed could chime in here? Also, what type of "center bore" does the gsl-se have?

I'm not sure why he's using the 195/60/16, seems that the outer diameter is totally different. Perhaps when you're stretching a tire you need to have a taller side profile to compensate? Here's a comparison on willtheyfit.com of this guy's setup:

So that guy's running +15 offset, looks like a +20 will pull the wheel in a bit more, help reduce that nasty rub it looks like he has even when parked. How much back space do we have to work with here?

You can't get a proper 8" tire in there without it rubbing unless you run a stretched tire, which defeats the purpose of running a wider rim. Get a 7" and just save yourself the headache of trying to make it fit, and you'll still have a bit of protection for the rim from the tire.

depends on your "purpose" for the wide rim.

for me, the purpose is a super fatty lip and righteously awesome looks. For the most part, daily driven. In fact, never raced before in my life! Although something i would be interested in, venue permitting, even as such i'd throw on track wheels anyways. THOSE would for sure be no wider than 7.5 or 8, with track tyres (not street) of proper size.

Just came across after viewing the esm website to set a budget to purchase the wheels and on their site if you were to get ready for checkout it shows 3 different center bores for the wheels... does anyone know what center bore opening did he ran to make the esm wheel work???

I believe the "center bore" is a cut-out in the back of the rim that matches the diameter of the hub. One website said that you want to match the center bore so that there won't be any vibration between the hub and the wheel as it spins. They also mentioned you can get spacers or adapters to accomodate, but that its best and safest to get the correct match.

Any of the tech-heads know what the "bore" of the FB's hubs are?

Ummm. Not so sure of center bore for the GSL-SE are on the wheels but, if there is anyone on here that can hint me in the right direction or find out for sure I would appreciate it very much... Is there anyone else on here that can help with this??? Thanks!

Well on their site they list only 3 sizes if memory serves - why dont you pop off the stock rims and measure the hub and see whats closest.

however looking at the gsl-se hub, i'm not sure how much of a wheel bore counter sink these hubs can take without slamming against the brake caliper:

I suppose its possible to get the largest wheel bore, then install the rim as though it were lug-centric? I'm guessing in areas i've never ventured before, would be good to get a 2nd, field-experienced, opinion in here.

Just order hub centering rings. I used a set on my Rota's and had zero issues. You should be able to get them from any performance shop in your area or eBay. Just make sure you measure accurately or you'll be ordering twice. Ask me how I know. Go ahead. ASK!!!
