Hawk HPS pads on sale at TireRack
 

I was shopping for new pads and TR has the Hawk HPS at "Closeout" prices while supplies last for both 12a and 13b FB's. No, I don't work for TR. But I have been very happy with the HPS pads on my Subarus (XT and WRX) - big improvement over the stock pads, so thought I'd try them on my RX. I'm guessing the listing of "Closeout" means Hawk won't be making them for our oddball cars anymore. Boo.

Somtimes it just means TR stocked too many for our cars and wants to drop them. I doubt hawk isn't making them anymore. Personally, I used em for awhile but the noise and dust drove me batty. They worked great. I decided to get some centrix ceramics from rockauto and very little dust and excellent performance, even driving at the 80% on mountain roads. Very pleased. I kept the hawks for future track days.

Sure that was HPS and not HP+?
HPS is supposed to be low dust and very streetable, whereas the Plus has a reputation for lots of dust and squeals when cold.

I've got HPS on my car and they're a good street pad.
I don't think they'll be good on a fast track with a skilled driver. On my local small club track (1.8 mile, 11 turns) it felt like they were not biting as well after a 25 minute session. I know the track and wasn't pushing too hard, and the car has stock wheels with crappy all-season tires.

Might as well add that Hawk reformulated HP+ for less dust and noise.
I'm getting ready for my first track day in 3 years and have been researching brake pads the last few days.

Hmm, well that could be T_G, but either way my favorite street pads were on sale so I'm happy. I won't be tracking the car, only street driving. As j_tso says, my HPS's are clean and quiet. No noise hot or cold, and my gold rims don't get any dirtier than the OE pads did. I'm glad to hear the Ceramic pads work well on our cars though. I have tried them on two vehicles with poor results (built '84 C10 and low mile '05 Impala).. After a few weeks of gentle braking they never seemed to bed-in, and had lousy feel and longg braking distances. Both cases I ended up throwing them away and going back to great stopping semi-metallics. I'll never buy ceramics again, but it's nice to know they work for some cars.

I just took a look at all the pads offered by Hawk it looks like they changed the material they are using. So the have the pads made out of the old material are on "closeout". Some pretty good prices.

Sold out at Tirerack but you can still get them for less on Amazon (same price but no tax and free shipping).

I don't see any indication on the Hawk web site that they've changed their material on the HPS series -
