GSL-SE-Type Jaguar?

This this is beautiful!! I would definately rock this!! (in another color)

The only common ground between the mid-80’s first generation Mazda RX-7 and the late 60’s Jaguar E-Type is the front-mounted engine, rear-wheel drive layout. But that seemed a good enough base for this old chap to create a unique replica of the stunning Jaguar E-Type Convertible using the chassis and the 135Hp strong Wankel rotary engine of a 1985 Mazda RX-7 (FB, 3rd Series). Even though the Rotary powered E-Type might lack the… penis-like analogies of the original Brit model, the fiberglass body is pretty detailed and you may fool some people. Plus, you’ll get a kick out of the looks on everybody’s faces when they hear the rotary engine scream. The RX-7 E-Type Convertible was sold on e-Bay a couple of days ago for $16,000 or 12,250 EUR. -More images after the jump

j_tso 11-19-08 11:00 AM

I don't know about that, but I've had thoughts of a 20B in an XJS.

DivinDriver 11-19-08 12:58 PM

Mightbe the only way I'd ever own an XKE...

But my retirement time is already comitted to my original batmobile replica.

At the very least, it looks well done (exterior).

I uploaded them here, since the original links don't seem to work anymore.

I give the builder credit, looks like a pretty decently done replica. I've never liked Jags or any year or variety so I can't say I'd be interested in owning it. Maybe a different color would look better like DF said....

What's up with that? All these nice pics of a Rotary powered Jag?

I see an S3 Gauge Cluster.

Directfreak 11-21-08 12:13 PM

Exactly. It's a GSL-SE converted to look like a classic Jag.

notveryhappyjack 11-21-08 12:40 PM

I was fooled, I thought it was a real jag until I examined the interior, I don't see any engine pics ??

romo 01-01-09 01:25 PM

I am going to be sick, that's a disgrace. Nice work but would have been better to bastardize a 240z than a RX7....I am going to clean some rotors :(

Rotary Powah 01-01-09 03:19 PM

Meh, it's ok, I wouldn't be able to tell the diff from the outside, but the interior screams RX-7

HeavyEarly 01-01-09 10:42 PM

I say cool,
I would not do that,
I would not want that,
But cool anyway.

The XKE is the pinnacle of British classic cars from the 60s. They are at the top of my all time favorites list. There was even a gal that drove one to my high school, soooo jealous, but her daddy had money.

Only issue I might have with the conversion is it lacks XKE suspension, which was so far ahead of it's time. Independent rear suspension with disc brakes mounted on the half shafts, coil overs, yadda yadda yadda. It would look better with the original wire wheels.

Like it or not, the work is excellant and he's a rotary lover, give him some credit. That banana yellow was one of the more popular oem colors.

mazdaverx713b 01-02-09 10:46 AM

not something i would ever do to a 7...on the up side however, that is a beautifully done conversion and the car looks amazing based on the amount of time and effort that was put into that car. i can respect that.

NoPis10 01-02-09 12:51 PM

Gotta agree.... cool kit BUT not something I would build....
