Got some new headlights

4 Attachment(s)
Well guys I bought some new headlights for the SA. Normally I get 20% discount at work but for the July 4th weekend we got 30% off so I decided to go ahead and buy some Sylvania Silverstar Ultra 9003 bulbs. I ordered new H4 headlight housings from Black Dragon Auto(excellent quality BTW) to put my new Ultra 9003's in. My housings came yesterday and I got them all installed. BDA sent bulbs with the housings so I did some comparisons of stock sealed beam vs. their bulbs and my Ultra 9003's vs. stock sealed beams. Here are the first few pictures showing the bulbs, housings, and the stock lighting.

The first three pictures show the stock sealed beam on the right and the BDA housing with the bulb they sent which was just a standard 9003 bulb. The 4th and 5th pictures show the stock sealed beam on the right and Ultra 9003 on the left. Last picture compares the stock sealed housing on the right and the new BDA housing on the left

Any idea how those housings compare to Hella housings? And what did they cost?

I've been looking for housings so I can install my HIDs from my FC and give the FB wicked bright lights.

you need to make pics of how much better does it light up the road thats where the big difference really is.

And these pictures are just showing the housings off during the day. I threw in one of the magnet I'm rocking on the back of the 7

Sorry for the drawn out posts. I'm not sure of the quality of the housings vs. the Hella housings as I haven't seen the Hella's in person. Black Dragon lists them at $34.95 a piece and it was $83.65 to my front door for both housings with bulbs and a free catalogue(I already had it but that's okay LOL). For the price, I think they are an excellent choice for new housings. I don't think I would recommend them for HID use as they don't have the porper reflectors for an HID application. Let me find a picture I took in my FC with a similar set up, only differences were I had Silverstar H4 bulbs instead of the Ultra 9003's. The cutoff with them though is really nice, much more light in front of the car with a little bit wider profile. I never got flashed high beams when I was driving testing the aims of them so there isn't any glare for oncoming drivers either

The HID reflector thing isn't an issue, it's all built into the bulbs themselves.

Looks good, though.

I have IPF head light housings with piaa xtreme white H4 bulbs.

If reflectors aren't an issue then I would highly recommend the housings. For the price they are I think they would look sweet with some HID's. Keep us updated on that, I can't remember anyone pulling off a good quality HID kit on an FB. Blown7, those lights look pretty damn bright, I guess I'm just a sucker for the crystal housings LOL

They're 8000k bulbs I got from Icemark for my FC. I think I'll have the hardest time finding a decent place for the ballasts. But, as far as I can tell, I still have the original bulbs from 84, so I think a $10 flashlight that I have to masturbate would be brighter.

my SA needs new headlights, but it rarely goes out at night.

firebirdslayer--- i want your front bumper. if you ever get rid of it, i want it.

FirebirdSlayer666 07-14-08 03:52 PM

8000K? That's going to be seriously blue. Yeah they are defintely a vast improvement at night. Aws, the Kamei has really grown on me. I think I'll keep it for a while, until I can at least get one of the Xenon front ends.

dbragg 07-15-08 04:05 PM

what if i told you i have a xenon in my pocession....kind of. pm me

I have this HID kit below installed in my 7.

I won it at Sevenstock #9:) ....I think it was donated by Icemark Rotary.

Here is a pic after the install, my car is blue so I got blue-ish globes to match.

It may not look too bright in the pic, but look at the yellow lights in the background, they are my outside patio light and garage door light...the car is WAY brighter than them.

Here is how they make my white toyota Camry stand out and also the shrubs.

The lights have been angled correctly and I have never been "hi-beamed" by anyone thinking my lights are too bright.

The camera doesn't really make them look too bright, but you can see how the Camry's shadow is being thrown onto the house across the road, and how you can see their letterbox...

...the camera hasn't picked that up too well, the reality is that the letterbox and house stand out heaps! you have a lot longer illumination distance with the HIDs than I ever had with the stock lights (obviously!)

The HID's are a world away from regular globes, the difference in light is amazing.

You don't get a "spot" of bright light on the road anymore, just a nice WIDE! spread of light from the front door of the house on the left to the front door of the house on the right.

Here's a pic of them on during the day.

My RX-7 is a '85 model so it already had the factory H4 globe fittings.

I just had to cut away a bit of the rear globe shroud so that the long HID globe assembly wouldn't hit anything as the headlights opened and closed.

They work perfectly everytime and I can't recommend this kit enough:icon_tup:
