Well it was a pain in the *ss, but she is finally painted.
I'll be wet sanding and wheeling it out tonight. Then installing the air dam, side skirts and rear wrap around and my Graphite Konig Rewinds. Very exciting!!
Also, my Sterling carb just came the other day. Whoo-hoo!!
I'll post some picts when she's all back together.

Lookin good! Paint is a pain in the butt, but its also very satisfying knowing you did it yourself!

car looks nice! what paint color did you use and what type of paint and materials?

csmstudly 08-20-08 06:45 AM

This was my first time painting a car.
The color is GM. It is Silver Birch Metallic.
I used a HVLP gun and a 5.5HP 25gal compressor. Probably should have had a larger compressor. It was running the entire time I was spraying.
The color didn't cover very well, which I hear is the trouble with silvers. It turned out OK I guess. Hopefully the wet sanding and wheeling will take car of the dust and such that got in the paint job. I am looking forward to focusing on other parts of the car now (interior, engine).
By the way, I really like the clear that I used. It is called Extreme Glamour KlearKote. You can find info on the internet. It sprayed really nice and looked like glass, even after it dried. I highly recommend it.

I like it alot, are you going to put the black trim back on????

csmstudly 08-20-08 08:41 AM

Yeah, all of the balck trim will be back on. I also held the Graphite Konigs up against the car and they look really sharp with the new paint color.
By the way, does anyone have a suggestion on getting the old adhesive off my rubber trim pieces?

You graphite Konig wheels will look fantastic when it's all done. Looking forward to a completed picture.

Congratulations on such good work.

Coverage often has a lot to do with the primer/basecoat. Pale yellows take 3-5 coats, even over a white base.
