Reliving the Past

Thanks for Posting. Have to laugh at all the different, nice ways the 2 drivers try to say the car is underpowered....which it is. *sigh*

Mazda must have felt the same way... they put the 13B into the 1984 GSL-SE and the Japanese market had the Savannah RX-7 Turbo and following that, the Japanese FC was turbo-only.

True. But it took them several years and a few 100 thousand 7's out the door to get around to it...

I fixed the slowness on mine. :)

I kind of got bored hearing them say basically the same things over and over. It was fun to watch them drive it a bit though.

Great post, thanks.

I fixed the slowness on mine too, and it IS a GSL-SE. I can't imagine driving a bone stock 12A car. With all the knowledge we have today... I'm just gonna trail off here.

+1, They did "feel the entire car" lol. It's a still a good use of ten minutes to watch it. Thanks HiWire for posting. Oh and mine's just as clean, dammit ;)

HiWire thanks for posting this video clip. While watching this video and seeing the steering wheel in constant motion I was wondering how long it would take before one of the drivers mention it. With the exception of the "steering rack" reference, they did point out something all RX-7 owners are aware of, the lack of "crisp" steering response which is an inherent problem with the recirculating-ball steering boxes. This was made worse by the use of a large steering wheel to aide in steering (and to compensate for lack of power steering on most RX-7's I believe.) I went to a Nardi 13" mahogany steering wheel eighteen years ago and never regretted it (at my age now it's a plus for getting in and out of the car too.) The smaller circumference wheel reduced the wheel play significantly. I was lucky enough to purchase a 1985 GSL-SE back in 1994 from the original owner and while it does not produce "head-snapping" acceleration it is "quick" and "well-balanced" and damn fun to drive.

Thanks for posting that, I've never seen it!

I've thought about getting the smaller JDM ɛ̃fini steering wheel for my FD as well, but it's something I'm saving for later once I've got everything else sorted out.
