Dyno App

I just bought the Bosch Light 'Em Up app for my iPhone. I'm going to use it tomorrow. Just seeing if anyone else has it or knows anything about it.

It was only $5 to get hp, timed distances and g's. The free one only gives you 0-60 which I have used (on my stock 82 GS I was getting avg 9.5 sec for 0-60 mph).

Let me know your input.

Well I tried it out. I stopped on an interstate shoulder and when an opening occurred, I gassed it. The results seem reasonable. Keep in mind that the road wasn't completely flat/straight and I had to deal with other cars. The one result shows a drop at the end...I caught up to the car in front of me.

Thats really cool . True seat-of-the-pants style dyno numbers

t_g_farrell 12-23-10 12:58 PM

Is this a fairly stock (with rats nest, nikki and stock exhaust) 12A ? If so then the
numbers look pretty accurate.

wesmcbride 12-23-10 03:14 PM

I forgot to put these us as well...numbers

for the first one:

and the second one:

The car is a 12a, nothing removed, stock exhaust. The weight I entered was 2450 lbs and a drivetrain loss of 20% (not sure on that number). Not that the car is a numbers monster, it is still pretty cool to know them. I'm going to try and find a nice stretch of road around here that isn't crowded and not pot hole ridden to get a couple of more accurate runs.

Why is max speed so low?

wesmcbride 12-23-10 06:01 PM

I think it was partially because it was a little uphill and there were other cars in the way.

wesmcbride 12-23-10 08:04 PM

Or because the car isn't very fast...

As far as my understanding goes, a 12A powered FB should to out at about 100-110mph as the engine just can't push the car any faster. May be wrong about that but I remember that number popping up a bit in the past.

thejallenator 12-24-10 06:51 PM

i remember we messed around with this app back when the rex was running.(ha everyone on here remembers the day when their rex ran haha) and it was really close to accurate. the times and numbers it gave me were all right within what the car was posed to do. i was pretty surprised

t_g_farrell 12-25-10 01:24 PM

Its a bit optimistic for the setup you have. Stock, new the 12a was
105 hp at the crank. You rwhp should be around 85ish. no more than
90. You cars now much older and probably is a bit lower on hp.

So its still a nifty tool for tuning against a baseline because it should be
pretty consistent even if its little off. Dynos' have the same issue as
well a lot of times.

RotoricanNY 12-25-10 10:56 PM

seems interesting, do you guys know if they have this app for android?

Ferrariferg 12-26-10 01:05 AM

I just bought this app as well and tried it out in my little brothers 05 cobalt ss and he's had his car dynoed before at about 240 and the app said a peak of 225. That's not bad for only $5. Just be sure to recalibrate the sensors before each use. That way it's most accurate. It's fairly accurate so I say go for it. I mean, for $5 you can expect it to be 100%. Plus who doesn't like to do a nice 0-60 pull. :)

xXGslseSleeperXx 12-30-10 09:31 PM

WTH ? Never owned an I Phone Where do you hook it up? no DLC! How does it get tha info?

Ferrariferg 12-30-10 10:02 PM

You don't plug it in to anything. you set it in a position that doesn't let it move, enter the approximate total weight of the vehicle and driver/passengers/cargo, and you start the test. It uses the accelerometers and the information you entered to calculate the approximate speed and power.

t_g_farrell 12-31-10 09:01 AM

I think the new phones have gps access as well, but I could be wrong.

Ferrariferg 12-31-10 10:21 AM

I dont think it uses the GPS, because I'm just using an iPod Touch and it only has GPS when connected to the internet.

ricerockettuner 12-31-10 03:39 PM

My droid is connected to gps all the time whether your on wifi or any kind of internet. I have an app called street race that was free and does everything u have minus the horsepower. Its really accurate as is says my rx7 runs 15.9 to 16.1 consistantly.. and at the track I ran a 15.98 at 84 mph.. pretty dang close

DwArF 01-03-11 11:54 AM

from the app store?

ricerockettuner 01-04-11 08:43 AM

Ya its called street race. Iphones have it too. For free

Verneuil 01-28-11 01:47 PM
