If yer gonna drive old vehicles,ya need at least two. One to drive while you fix the other one...

I daily drove SA's and FB's daily for many years and I honestly had very little trouble out of any of the cars. Most repairs were maintenance related and normal wear items. I've never been left stranded in a 1st Gen and would be happy to daily drive either of my two 1st Gens if need be. If you maintain the car properly and replace or repair things before they become an issue you can likely head off any impending failures.

Everyone's definition of "daily" is different while everyone's commute is also different.

I would not be driving my rx7 regularly if it were my only car, but it is the car I put the most miles on each year. I do not drive it in winter, but with snow tires and the limited slip I probably could. I have a perfect driving record and have not been in an accident in decades...that is partly due to the nature of my commute (slightly off rush hour) but also due to my situational awareness, and in part due to prepping the car for daily use.

You can buy a 3-5 yr old car and start dailying it as your only ride right away. To daily a 30-35 yr old car there is a lot of prep work to prevent you from causing an accident or getting stranded. It ranges from simple stuff to more complicated stuff. If you are not willing to roll back the clock on all the systems in the car, you shouldn't make it part of your livelihood. I'm talking full brake service, master cylinder, new soft brake lines, pads, rotors, and possibly rebuilding caliper pistons...these are your lifeblood. New tires with wider performance tread so when a Prius slams on the brakes you can avoid it. New rubber hoses for the entire cooling system if you don't know their age. Flush all the gear oil. Grease the window mechanisms. Replace shocks, tierods, ball joints, bushings, idler arm, control arms, etc, and inspect everything else underneath in the process. Check/clean all electrical grounds, check for bad circuits draining the battery, and start with a fresh battery. Test the charging system. New plugs, wires, etc etc.

If you're willing to do all that...all that's left to worry about is the fact you don't have airbags, abs, and modern crumple zones to save you in a wreck...so you better drive carefully and put your trust in the drivers around you. Many accidents are preventable, but there is no cure for stupid.

As far as I can tell, the only reason to own an FB is to daily drive it.

i daily drove Rx7's for a really long time, and had an Rx8 up to 2017. i have had to do stuff, but i only got stuck once, when the points wire broke, on the inside...

currently i have a miata, it gets better mpg and the top goes down, but other than that its loud and rough. normal maintenance on it is like a frame up restoration, so its reliable, but its more work.
