DIY engine pull
 

I'm just a car "hobbyist"...but I decided to tackle the engine pull all by my lonesome. It wasn't really that difficult (besides the frig'n transmission crossmember bolt that's behind the exhaust heat shield). It was a little scary when the tranny started swinging towards the windshield but some quick hands saved the day. I didn't remove the forward AC unit (as the Haynes Manual suggested) - it was very tight but the 1/2" plank saved it from getting damaged.

Ya, didn't really think to look at the intake or injectors lol.

Correct. It has a mild street port as well. I'm going for "reliability" rather than brute power since it's just a cruising car - not for the track.

not bad, last time i put the engine in from the bottom, it was SOOOOOOOOoooo easy. jack up car, put motor trans on floor jack, roll it in there, and lift.

you do have to remove the steering center link

Didn't the front crossmember kind of get in your way? Or did you leave the keg completely stripped and the mount off?

One suggestion for next time. Take off the radiator surround (top and two sides). The AC radiator will unbolt and lay flat tucked toward the front bumper. With the AC compressor unbolted from the AC braket, it gives extra lenth for the hoses. This will give an extra 8 inches or so to get a good angle for the trans to come out with the engine.

Yeah..I think I'll have to do that for the transplant because it was pretty tight getting the old motor out with the trans attached. Thanks for the input...

Wow, you got it out without having to pull the radiator? The arm on my hoist wasn't long enough to do that.

..without pulling the AC rad. I also had the front of the car raised so that gave me a bit more angle on the engine with the trans attached.
