If you are looking at the photos I put up and deciding they are silver you would be tricked. Those are still in gold, the light just makes them look a little washed out.

CyByrd 07-22-13 11:31 AM

I was wondering about that. Thanks for clearing it up.

Same here. 3 85's, one 83.

CyByrd 07-22-13 01:06 PM

My 83 gsl had one back in the day. So I know what I'm missing. It's just not right not having one. At this point as long as its looks close. Heck--it could have Donald duck in the middle of it. Lol. Now there's an idea. Custom make ur on sticker. Hummmmmmm.

CyByrd 07-22-13 01:08 PM

Did they even make em in 80 or 81 or did they start in 82 and just praised the championships in 80 & 81. Historians what say u?

If the first victory was in 80, there's no way they could have put them on the 1980 cars as they were already "out there."

I've never seen any with less than 2 dates up top (80&81) & the third 4-digit date at the bottom (1982).

CyByrd 07-22-13 01:50 PM

That's what I was thinking dd. so we need 82,83,84,85,86,87. And evidently a bunch of em

CyByrd 07-22-13 02:04 PM

Ok. My guy needs to know the measurements of the unicorn sticker. Anyone got a live breathing one they can go measure real quick.

lx_machado 07-22-13 03:31 PM

Try getting a hold of him on his Facebook page,

Hopefully letzgo rotary is still in the IMSA/GTU market, but I doubt it. If they had stickers for sale, we'd have a link, photos and a paypal address to submit our payment to.

I've been watching, I haven't seen an IMSA/GTU sticker for sale in years.

It looks like the stickers in the photo above were printed on some special medium, probably plastic, with gold embedded in the surface.

Whatever it is, it needs to be tough, stand up to UV light from the outside, washing fluids from the inside and not shrink too much.

I would think a run of 50-100 stickers for any individual year or pattern would be a good investment.

At $10 a sticker, you might see a $500-$750 return on each pattern. But you need to be prepared for much less, of course.

After the market becomes saturated, I think you'd see a big drop off in demand, but there should be a steady residual market and companies like Mazdatrix, RB racing, etc might want to have a stash on hand as novelties.

Concerning the size, I'm pretty sure the original stickers were cut to standard 4" size, and that they shrink a bit with age.

Depending on conditions, surviving 25-30 year old examples will run 1/8" to 1/4" smaller (3 3/4" to 3 7/8" diameter).

My uninstalled one is 3 7/8".

The finished product, then, should look something like this (from the earlier photos posted):

Ray. I know u having to sit there and look at ur years sticker over and over again has to be a kick in da balls. Lol. I'm glad it's not a bunch of 1982's. Ur 1st sticker is on me brutha

ray green 07-23-13 08:58 AM

Only got one left 'Sip, the uninstalled one in the photo above - it's an '82.

All the others moved on with the cars, once they're installed they don't come off.

So yep, I need to build up the reserves, so let me know if I can help with the production.

Stevan 07-23-13 05:43 PM

Hopefully Letzgo is just lining up his ducks before he gives an answer.

You should wrap your fender in those.

aeenox 07-25-13 11:27 PM

So whats up with these? I want a 85 one for my car.

CyByrd 07-26-13 12:35 AM

Ya can't find em anywhere. I gotta a buddy working on it but he is kinda slow and not sure how motivated he is. He said he would do this and he's a very good artist. I'll speak to him Friday and let y'all know what the deal is. Think ima keep a few from each year --as much hell as we're having getting these. And if u get tint or brake a glass--well there goes ur unicorn sticker.

What month was your 85 made? I doubt that any 85's had an 85 IMSA sticker on the window because the production run was done before the wins. I know both of my 85's were made in 84 My GSL-SE was in 8/84 and the GSL was in 10/84. When was the race and when was your car made?

Probably the 85 sticker would only have appeared on an FC. But I could be completely wrong. I know that both of mine have an older sticker. See the photos above.

ray green 07-26-13 01:32 PM

I think you're right on all accounts Doug.

I've never seen an 85 sticker on an FB, including both the 2 85 GSLs that I've owned that came with the sticker, one of which had an 84 sticker and the other an 83 sticker.

The 85 sticker must have been something the dealers put on the 86 FC.

Which means, of course, we FB purists will need an 84 sticker or older for our 85 FBs, an 83 or 82 sticker for our 84 FBs, or an 82 sticker for our 83 FBs.

Looks like the SA and early 81, 82 FB purists are out of luck, unless they want to install a mod that didn't come with the original car.

So 'Sip, since your FB is an 82, it looks like you don't need to worry anymore about getting one of those stickers, since the 82s didn't come with them in the first place.

Stevan 07-26-13 10:59 PM

Well if you're that much of a purists you shouldn't put a FAKE IMSA/GTU sticker on your car :P
I'd have no problem putting the 80 thru 87 sticker on my 81. It's just a sticker...

CyByrd 07-27-13 02:10 AM

Well being a purist I see know prob giving props to the year u have. I have an 82 and I'm gonna get an 82. I'm not entering contest and if I was - I would just simple take the sticker off I mean it's just a sticker. One minute and they can be gone pretty fast. For me it's just showing how bad ass these little cars were back in da day. Cause my year won. Lol. And they just look damn cool. And if the car was sold late in the year like say November or December after the race the dealer could have put a new sticker on it. Hummmmm. I don't care. I'm getting me one. Ha

CyByrd 07-27-13 02:16 AM

Cause my 83 had an 83 sticker on it. Dunno how that happened.

dougingraham 07-27-13 12:54 PM

I certainly didn't mean to stir up any controversy. I just wanted to point out that it probably wasn't possible for there to be an 85 sticker on an 85 car, at least not new from a dealership. It wouldn't phase me a bit to see one set up this way either. I probably wouldn't even notice the year. It is after all just a sticker on a window that the driver pretty much cant even see out of.
