Head Unit: Eclipse 5443 CD Player
Front Speakers (4" factory position): Hertz ECX100 Additional Front Speakers: N/A Front Speaker Amplification: Soundstream Rubicon Class A 5.0 Rear Speakers (6.5" factory position): Soundstream Exact 5.3 Component Additional Rear Speakers: N/A Rear Speaker Amplification: Soundstream Rubicon Class A 5.0 Subwoofer(s): Soundstream Exact 12" Subwoofer Amplification: Soundstream Rubicon Class A 5.0 Additional Equipment: Crossovers on all speakers designed and built by myself to crossover at 150Hz high pass on the front speakers @ 18db/octave (3rd order), 100Hz high pass on the rear speakers @ 18 db/octave (3rd order), and 120Hz low pass @ 12db/octave (2nd order) on the subwoofer. Power Wire Gauge: 4 Power Equipment: Stock Mitsubishi alternator (it isn't happy.) Comments on build: Rewiring the entire car with new speaker wire was actually quite painless, I used 18 gauge wire for the speakers and 14 gauge for the subwoofer. I brought the power wire through the same location on the firewall as just about every other wire on the driver's side, it's really easy there. I like the way the system sounds, though the front speakers are in such a terrible position. I mounted the rear tweeters right over the grille and didn't have to cut into anything on the car except for the cloth grille behind the plastic one. |

Additional Front Speakers: Kicker KS series 5 1/4 components in the doors. Front Speaker Amplification: Phoenix Gold Xenon 400.4 (front and rear speakers) Rear Speakers (6.5" factory position): Kicker KS series 6.5 components Additional Rear Speakers: Maybe some 6x9's for more mid bass in the future. Rear Speaker Amplification: Phoenix Gold Xenon 400.4 (front and rear speakers) Subwoofer(s): 2 Phoenix Gold Xenon 10' dual voice coil 4 ohm subs, wired to 4 ohms Subwoofer Amplification: Phoenix Gold Xenon 600.1 class D amp Additional Equipment: (Sound Processors, Crossovers, BLT, etc.) Power Wire Gauge: 0 gauge from the batter to a distribution block. 4 gauge to each amp. Power Equipment: (Alternators, Meters, Batteries, etc.) I am running an S4 alternator and Optima yellow top battery. It is fine for normal listening levels but it isn't enough if the amps are running at more than half power (which is pretty damn loud). Comments on build: For more info on my front speaker install go here: https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/step-step-door-speaker-instal-902483/ For information on everything else go here: https://www.rx7club.com/1st-gen-general-discussion-207/sound-system-mostly-complete-subwoofers-amplifiers-component-speakers-head-unit-923474/ I love my set up. It has good bass, but not enough mid bass for me. So, I might install some 6x9's in the rear. I would run the front speakers off the head unit and both sets of rears off the amp. I also installed sound proofing to cut out some road noise. There are no vibrations from this car when the bass hits, but these 1st gens are usually like that in my experience. This is not the sound system for racers. It is too heavy, but you can't tell the difference under normal driving conditions. |
so fair 2 10inch soundstream picked up for $40 new

Front Speakers (4" factory position): Walmart Special Additional Front Speakers:NA Front Speaker Amplification:NA Rear Speakers (6.5" factory position):Orion Component 6.5's Additional Rear Speakers:Orion tweeters mounted in the rear plastics Rear Speaker Amplification:Ebay special 250w amp hidden in driver's side compartment Subwoofer(s):NA Subwoofer Amplification:NA Additional Equipment: (Sound Processors, Crossovers, BLT, etc.)NA Power Wire Gauge:6 AWG Power Equipment: (Alternators, Meters, Batteries, etc.) - New Alternator, full brass MAXI fuse block Comments on build: I used an install kit for and 81-83 (mine is an 84) and it took mild modification to make it fit, i would recommend a double din receaver if you're not handy with a dremel, lol, but it looks great if you take care in the installation, i ran all the power cables through the dash and under the center console and into the driver side bin for the amp to the rear, I also used the dremel to make a small rectanglular hole for my USB cable for the ipod so it's all hidden inside the center console |
