Somebody deleted all the photos of my brown 1985 GSL from earlier in this post (wonder why, there weren't any obscenities in there). So here they are again:

ray green 07-18-08 08:31 PM

Yup that looks pretty good.

4giglz 07-19-08 04:19 PM

Revvin 85, what is the name of the brown on your car? I've been trying to decide what color to paint mine, and I think your brown is in the running. How far from the Peoria area are you?

Revvin85 07-19-08 05:14 PM

datsun- the wheels are 15" enkies

thanks raygreen

and giglz-..im not completely sure on the color because it sat it a junkyard and was repainted by the previous owner after being crashed. and i live about 2 hours away from peoria and make commutes fairly regularly.

4giglz 07-19-08 08:53 PM

Revvin85 -

Any chance in getting together when you are in town, or letting me come to you and seeing the 7 in person? I don't know any other 1st gen 7 owners in the area to chat 7's with, or any other cars to look at that are together and running. I'm just getting started on mine.

that would be awesome considering there isnt anyone around here with a first gen either. but, i am only 16(doesnt effect my knowledge of rotary) and i dont know how my parents would feel about it with all of the news today. Ill pm you sometime im over there though. good luck with the never-ending project!:icon_tup:

4giglz 07-20-08 09:20 PM

Congrats on having a 7 as a teenager! My tastes hadn't come around to a car that would handle well when I was your age. I understand about keeping yourself safe, never a bad idea. I'm totally fine with having your parents contact me and I would prefer that you have them do that before we get together. PM me if you want my contact info.

datsun1200 07-20-08 10:18 PM

Hay 4giglz way dont you post pic of your car??????:)

4giglz 07-21-08 04:50 PM

I can't seem to figure out how to put them in the post. (Never tried it before.) I'll go to the info section and see if I can get it.

I just got it home from storage and it is currently still on the trailer. It is less than impressive at this point, and it is maroon. I bought it several years ago from a guy that was building it into a spec 7 road racer. He didn't want a brown racer, so he gave it a pretty cheep shot of maroon that doesn't clash with the brown interior. He didn't even fix the dings. Plan is to properly put it back together with some light mods to make it more fun to drive(street and autocross), but I can't for the life of me decide on how I want the final project to look. I figure this will probably be my only shot at restoring something, and I want to do it right and I want a car that I can be passionate about.

ray green 07-21-08 08:48 PM

Post it on photobucket.com (it's free). Then link it here, it will appear like magic.

Lets see if this works... if it does, here are 2 pics, standing too close to a filthy neglected car. I'm going to try to rectify the filthy and neglected part, and if I ever get it off the trailer, I'll try to take some shots of it clean and standing a bit further away. In the next couple of years, I plan to create a thread of progress of the restoration and what mods I do to it. I figure progress to be painfully slow, as the plan is to have the car ready to teach our daughter to drive and autocross race in it. She is currently 2 mos old so i figure I have a shot at it at this point.

4giglz 07-22-08 07:10 AM

Thanks Ray, I'll try that next time. I didn't see your reply untill after I posted the pics.

datsun1200 07-22-08 06:38 PM

Cool toy.Is the color you whant, the stock????

ray green 07-22-08 07:00 PM

This was a stock replacement paint for my 85 GSL The Turd. Metallic brown. Looked great, especially in the sun. I did 50,000 on that car untill I ran into a buick. I'm still driving the tires, more than 100,000 on those Yokos and still counting.

4giglz 07-23-08 04:40 PM

That's the dilemma, I'm not 100% sure of what I want. I sometimes think I should restore it back to origional color and make the body origional, but add a few toys to the engine, suspension, and some wheels. I haven't found out which brown it was origionally either, though I suspect it is like Ray's. The interior is appart, but most of it is in very good condition- the dash is perfect etc..., so I think going back to brown paint would be best. I like some of the shades of white, and that would go with the brown interior, but other than that not many other colors work without changing the interior as well. That is why I was hoping to see Revvin85's car in person. I haven't ever seen a brown 7 in person that didn't need a repaint, and the pics he has look good. Like I said before, I figure I have only one shot at this, and I want to do it right. I am not concerned about resale, so origionality is not really an issue. I'll never sell it, so I'm going to be looking at it for a long time (Lord willing), and I hope to enjoy the apperance as much as the drive.

Sorry about being so long winded, but this is a very important car to our family.

4giglz 07-24-08 10:23 PM

Ray,
Georgia gets pretty warm in the summer, did the brown feel any warmer than the white? How good are the A.C.'s on these cars?

Opinion - The car I want to restore is a GS with drums in the rear, and I also have a GLS parts car with discs. Can you feel enough of a difference to justify the swap?

ncb13 06-20-10 06:17 PM

here is my se w/85,000. i have had it for 3 months now. i'v redone the exhaust and got the 5&6th ports working, new clutch, along with cleaning and repainting of parts in the engine bay. now she just needs the outside to be redone, and just the door cups replaced to make the inter 99% mint. [the sterring wheel is alittle chipped, and not sure what i'm doing with that yet]
