Better You Than The Yard

As much as I hate to even think about this; I have to consider this an option as it seems like it may end up being the only.

As you guys know I have been trying to rebuild my Seven ever since I wrecked my '82, unfortunately life, money, time, and motivation has been getting in the way and over two years later its almost ready to start up. But, its not close to being smoggable.

My parents are leaning on me to either get it done and registered or get it towed. I really don't want to get rid of this car, she's my baby and I can't let myself get rid of her. But if I do have to get rid of her I want her to go to someone who will take care of her.

So that's why I made this thread, to see if anyone would be interested in taking on this Seven IF she ends up becoming homeless. I'd appreciate it if I got some change if I do give her away since I've put so much work into her, but I; like everyone else understand how tight money is so that would be on a completely voluntary basis.

I just don't want to be forced to send her to the junkyard when I know she could be so much more than a rotting husk.

EDIT- Here's the build thread to get an idea of what she's like; https://www.rx7club.com/build-threads-293/rising-ashes-pics-warned-812400/

On a side note... if someone could point me in the direction where I could get my currently not operational vehicle smogged and pass?

I know I'm horrible.. X.x

Thanks, I appreciate the thought!

I really am hoping that I won't have to resort to giving her away, I just wanna keep all my bases covered in case I can't get it done in the next month.... :(

talk to Mr aldea, he was saying how much he misses the silver bullet! i dunno where we'd put it... maybe we trade for a dead FC?

j9fd3s 05-19-11 01:31 PM

refresh my memory, what does it need to be a runner?

BlackWorksInc 05-19-11 04:50 PM

Vacuum lines need to be run, needs belts, a cooling fan. I have most of the fluids in the car just not out of the bottle yet. Battery, some wiring needs to be finished up (will provide outline of harness since I re-did it) and an exhaust from the RE Header and short collector (3" exhaust ready).

Engine, transmission, steering, front suspension, rear suspension, axle, and drive shaft are all installed.

As I said before I am hoping I can get her up and running before the end of June, but I am not completely confident and should I fail I want her to go to someone who will care for her. I'll kep you guys updated if I do have to get rid of her... :(

oh you're so close, just finish it!

Rotospeed 05-19-11 07:36 PM

Buckle down and finish it you will be glad you did

Or could take it off your hands for you.. But that would not be as much fun for you

DivinDriver 05-19-11 09:23 PM

If I had the room, I'd offer you sanctuary. Sadly, I have a teeny lot.

So I decided to just bump this thread since it already serves the same function. I know I haven't been on in a while. I have had a rough year and a lot of things in my life have been piling on like no tomorrow.

I haven't really made any progress with the Seven in over a year (Hardly even touched it let alone looked at it) and I'm starting to really consider having to part with her. I love the car I do, but these days I don't have the time to really work on her. I'm also really having a hard time trying to justify the cost of finishing the work on her and then keeping a second car around. I'm not 100% sure what I want to do with the car yet (long story short, its next door at granddad's house which we're still building. Can't start working on it until about Jan anyways when the house gets done.) I'm just finding myself more and more pressured to decided what her fate will be ultimately and its stressful.

I just wanted to go ahead and let the local first gen guys know, so in case I do end up having to part with her; I really rather she go to another enthusiast than end up in the junkyard.

Qingdao 11-27-12 05:54 PM

Man... You've fought the good fight for over a year now. It hasn't made it to the junk yard yet.

Just keep it up \m/

Here's a tip... Roll it around once in a while and weed eat under it. No one will suspect it doesn't run. :D

BlackWorksInc 04-02-13 05:18 PM

Alright guys, I am getting pressured to move the car and I really don't think I can find another place to store it. So this is last call if anyone wants a rolling shell w/ some interior with a rebuilt 13B NA, 5spd, Rear LSD Diff w/ Disc brakes. I got about 2 weeks until I find out 100% if it stays or goes, but I need to know if there is an interested party otherwise its gettin' junked. :(

lazertazer300 04-02-13 05:27 PM

I Would So Me Interested In The Car And Would Love To Take Off You Hands But Your So Car Away :(

DivinDriver 04-02-13 05:47 PM

Wish I could do it, but I've no way to move a roller all the way from Hayward.

DreamInRotary 04-02-13 08:06 PM

Could be interested in a Cali trip... Pics?

RxTex 04-03-13 12:47 PM

Id perhaps take it (if it comes to that point for you). Im in Santa Barbara. pm me details?

Looks like youve done a ton of work, hope you can get it sorted for yourself.

j9fd3s 04-03-13 01:36 PM

i'd be interested too... actually if someone else gets it and it needs to sit somewhere i might be able to help

BlackWorksInc 04-11-13 01:17 AM

So I have good news and bad news.

First the good news, chatted with Granddad (who's moving next door in the house we renovated for him and where my RX7 is sleeping for now) and he doesn't mind that I am storing it there. He'd rather I take my time and get it running again than send it off, so that solves most of my issues.

The bad news, is that someone in my household has lost my ONLY key to all the door locks! Thankfully I can just pop the sunroof open and unlock it (the ignition switch is from the old RX& if I remember right so I still have the key for it...)

Anyone know where I can get a matching set of Ignition, Door, and hatch lock cylinders? The ones I have are very loose and a bit damaged...

DivinDriver 04-11-13 09:37 AM

Pull one door cylinder, or the hatch cylinder, and take it to a locksmith - they should be able to make you a matching key for a not-horrible cost. Locks on these cars are pretty basic. New locksets on the other hand are not available - individual locks are available from Mazdatrix, but no complete sets with column AND door/hatch locks.

IIRC, one of the two door cylinders (can't remember if it's drivers or passengers) supposedly has the key code stamped on it. Can't swear to that; I just remember reading it somewhere.

Ghooble 04-12-13 12:46 AM

Oh man, I was gonna say I'll see if I could make the trip down to Cali and help you out. Glad to hear you get to keep and finish your baby!

BlackWorksInc 01-23-16 12:26 AM

It's been years since I have been on this forum, also years since the poor RX7 has been touched. Life just kept getting in the way and it kept getting pushed on the back burner.

I'd love to finish the vehicle as I miss having it, but I'm fielding a job offer to Oregon soon and if all goes well I will be relocating. I can't afford to take the RX7 with me and I won't have a place to put a second vehicle let alone a non-operational one.

If any of you guys are interested in picking her up to finish where I left off or just strip her for parts, here's the Craigslist ad. If I can't get someone to buy her by the end of February she'll unfortunately have to be relegated to a Pick n' Pull; I really would rather she found a home with someone who will at least treat her better than the yard.

Hopefully one of these days I'll be able to get back in the rotary game. :(

Hey, you're local to me! Let me ask around my local buddies and see if anyone wants to pick this one up for restoration.
