All dressed up..... and ready to dance with...everyone!!!

Got her in the trailer.... ready to go to do some time trials at our local road course... I have been "called out" by a "last gen" MR2 and a 2nd gen turbo II Rx-7 (that has plenty of power....but handles like an F-150!!!) !!!

WHAT A BLAST!!! Had an absolute blast. There was 3 1st gen RX-7's there!

My goal was an aggressive one. I wanted to do the 2.4 mile road course in under 2 minutes. I pulled out a 1:59 the 2nd to last lap!!

I was using "last years" Hoosier A-6 tires and was expecting to "cord" them. Well they held up great!!! I can prolly get another event out of them.

What I REALLY enjoyed was the seat time!! When I go to Houston Autox events, we sit in the hot sun all day long and get 4-5 60 second runs. I calculated my laps and I got 88 MILES worth of seat time!!!

The RX7 ran perfect perfect perfect!! Temp held solid at 190 all day in 90 degree heat. I have not inspected my Hawk brake pads yet, but I think they are still holding up fine.

Now I want more power!!!

yes roadracing > autocross. the only way auto-x is better, is that you can build a nicer car. in roadracing, stuff happens...

Directfreak 08-31-11 10:02 PM

So how did you do against the people who challenged you?

Kentetsu 09-01-11 06:08 AM

Autocross is also a lot cheaper. :)

Glad to hear it went well for you. Got video?

I "hope" I can keep my car pretty. The roadracing I am doing is kinda what I refer to as "gentlemens racing" I will be doing track events where I am shooting for times. This way there will be less car to car trying to go into corners at the same time.

I also will be doing NASA time trials soon. Again, limited typical car to car racing.

I ran faster than the MR2 and ran exactly the same time as the turbo RX7 lemons car..

I stopped Auto-xing this year and focused on HPDE's with NASA working up to TT and doing some other fundays this year. I looked at the money I spent compard to solo and it worked out to the same for me. I ran 2-3 weekends a month sometime every weekend the past 6 or 7 year solo I ran 1 trackday a month so far this year and ran on my 5 year old Kumho mx tires which finally died last month( lost a belt in the left front tire on the last lap at Mid-Ohio) so I will have to get new tires . but the cost of fuel, tolls, entry fees, tires and fuel for the car were higher for solo. also you get a lot more seat time and don't need to work the course. I will be doing one more track day at Beaver Run next month $185 for the day which works out to about 5-6 20 minute track sesions. as compared to $35-45 for a solo event with 3-6 runs for about 45-60 seconds per lap.

Oh yeah..... I almost forgot. That was nice not having to work assignment!!! I am building up the car to run TTE or TTF for NASA TT.

Have you done many HPDE's?? How many HPDE's do you have to do before you can do TT??? I have raced Lemons before and now doing these fun days. I don't want to have to wait forever to do the TT's.
