Holley on First Gen

Hi, New to the whole RX7 world. I have an 83 RX7 GSL with a stock 12A. It has a RB Holley Carb. I I took the carb apart, cleaned it, adjusted floats and put it back together how I found it. Took millions of photos. I car does not want to idle below 1200 RPM. When I drop the idle the car stalls out. The car runs well on the street. No hic-ups on throttle, smooth power band, and everything returns like it is suppose to. The idle is just too high. The sticker under the hood says it should be between 700-950 rpm. Has anyone had this problem and what did you do to fix it? Would I be better off getting a weber? The holley came with the car. Thanks

Car run before,or sitting for awhile? Since off idle performance is ok,focus on idle circuit. two things can cause your symptoms...vacuum leak or plugged idle circuit. Carb is running on mains at 1200+rpm. With a can of carb cleaner, car "idling", spritz around base of carb paying close attention to throttle shafts-worn shafts/throttle plates are a pattern problem with these carbs. NPF? Look into idle circuit, pay special attention to metering block behind front float bowl. Disassemble carb and match all gaskets to their respective parts. Suggest putting carb body and all disassembled pieces into carb cleaner solvent for the most thorough cleaning followed by rinsing and spraying all passages with carb cleaner and then compressed air. Use NEW gaskets to reassemble, float levels are correct just at bottom of inspection window and initial idle mixture screw setting to get running is 1-1.5 turns out from lightly seated. Would also replace power valve or install a power valve blockoff. Each power valve has a marking on it to designate operation with specific " of vacuum. Post back findings.
