85 rx7 12a rough start up

My 85 12A with choke rough cold startup.
When I start my car that hasn’t been stated for a while, I pull the choke and start it. It starts but runs rough and blows smoke for about 30 to 40 seconds. The car only had 48,000 miles. Is this normal or what could it be?

What color smoke? White or blue/gray? Do you give it a stab of the gas when you start it?

If it's white, maybe the intake o-rings.

Sometimes the seals stick after sitting and takes a few minutes to really seal back up.

These things don't like to sit for long periods of time in between use.

Its perfectly normal for it to blow some smoke on startup. The oil metering system seems to be working properly. I have an 85 that I put a 13B from a GSL-SE into and that engine only has 55k miles and it smokes like that on start up and then the smoke goes away never to be see again until I let it sit. It would't concern me at all.

As far as rough running, you will want to check the basics. Check the plugs and ensure they are the correct NGK BR8EQ-14's, and ensure the cap, rotor, and coils are all in good condition. You may want to replace the fuel filter if you haven't done so in a couple years and running a can of Seafom through a full tank of gas would be beneficial as well. Would help to clean out any bad gas or carbon deposits.

Nothing wrong with it, just drive it and start it more often.
