that's what the bid got up to but reserve wasn't met so probable didn't sell.

On Bat, the seller and high bidder have the opportunity to contact each other when the reserve isn't met like this auction. It could still change hands depending on how far apart they are. The seller is the original owner and the front tires are the original OEM ones. The car does have a few rough spots and maybe I'm being naïve, but I believe the 15K mile claim and sellers story about the car. We are experiencing the latest wave of appreciating values inching higher, validated by a couple recent sales at eyebrow raising amounts. Those things tend to bring out cars like this with sellers hoping to catch the wave and cash in while the market seems hot. $7,500 for this car (with it's scrapes and bruises) is a pretty strong price I believe. It's a color not often saw, If the car was pristine it could have been another sale well into the teens.

If the odometer rolled over, then 7K is a fair price but probably a bit low. If the actual mileage is 15K then it should have had a reserve around 10k. Either way thats a nice 80 GS interior with the often damaged bits in good shape (chrome surround on the shifter bezel, chrome strips on the dash and most importantly the chrome ends on the door rests).

Having the pictures without the radiator top support piece doesn't do it justice.

Given the history of the car as presented by the seller, and the condition of the interior and other areas, I think it highly unlikely that the car has more than 15K miles (or, for that matter, that the owner/seller was being dishonest). Probably the biggest piece of evidence (though not conclusive, I suppose) is the fact that the front rubber is the factory original Bridgestone RD106’s with little wear and a manufacture date of the 7th week of 1980. Unless the owner decided in 1980 to perpetuate a great fraud 40 years hence by swapping out the tires for the life of his ownership before returning them to the car 100,000 miles later, I see no reason to disbelieve the history given by him in the BAT conversational thread. :dunno:
