Lets end all the debates...

Lets compile all the known info about what does/doesnt/possibly will fit SE cars.

I've looked over the forum for a while now, and I cant honestly say that I've found the correct offset's you can actually run on a 7" wide wheel on a GSL-SE. This Is not just for people running 7" wheels, but that seems to be a common wheel width to start from. As soon as you know what the exact extremes are that will fit on any given size, you could translate it to any other wheel/tire combo.

Before we go any farther, lets make sure everyone here is clear on the difference between Offset (et) and Backspace, as alot of threads have some confusion.

Offset- This is the measurement (in mm) of the Mounting Surface of the wheel to the centerline of the Wheel. Positive means the hub will sit farther inside the wheel, while lower offset will sit the wheel farther out from the Hub.

Backspace- This is the measurement (normally in Inches) from the mounting Surface of the wheel, to the INSIDE lip of the wheel. The greater the backspace, the Farther the wheel will sit inside the fender.

Some people say that a +40et will fit, but I cant see how you can go from a 4.8" backspace stock to a 5.6 Backspace, and it not rub. For the people running this setup, I want to see some pictures of the clearance at the spring in front. The tire must be a few mm away.

Some threads say that a +0et will fit, but you need to roll the fenders. This way, you go from then stock 4.8" backspace to a 4" backspace. take into account the 1.5 inch extra width of the wheel (.75" on each side), and the Lip would be about 1.5 inches further out towards/past the fender.

From the math, a 7" wide wheel should run about a +20et to get the exact same backspace as factory. That would push the lip out by less than an inch.

So, the real thing we need to do is get some pictures up on here, showing the:

~ FACTORY WHEEL
~ 7" +40 ET
~7" +0 ET
~Any Other Size Wheel/Tire Combo you are Running

Please don"t post up here if you have no clue what your saying, we need to end the numerous threads and rumors about wheel offset.

Also, I'm going to assume a 15" wheel here, but it doesn't matter, since the tire would just need to be the correct size to remain a stock diameter.

Remember, somebody could be running a 15x7 +0, and it fits, no rubbing, but they may be running a 195/50/15 tire... where the 15x7 +20 could possibly be running a 215/50/15

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!
POST THE TIRE SIZE and BRAND (some tires have a different width/height, even though they share sizes)

Please also say if you needed to roll the fenders to keep from rubbing (you +0 guys I bet)

SE suspension rolled fenders no rub, in picture camber plates are installed with coil overs however they fit with the normal spring up front.

17x7 +40 Konig Septor205/40-17 Have also ran a 17x7 +38 Konig Trafik 205/40-17 with stock SE suspension with no rub.
Kumho tires and Falken Azenis used on both

17 x 8 front +22 offset with a 3mm spacer to clear stock spring perch. ( +19mm )
17 x 9 rear +27 offset NO spacer.
MB Motoring wheels from DTD.

Tires....
215/40/17 Nexen for the front.
225/40/17 Nitto 555R for the rear.

Fenders are rolled front and rear with some rubbing in rear due to cut lowering springs.

have coilovers but would fit regardless

So you have any pictures of the RS8's from the front/rear so we can see how close to the fender they come. I really like that wheel.

I don't see why you need an official thread. It seems like a waste of bandwidth. If you know how offset works and can convert mm to inches there is no need for any confusion... This stuff is easy kids.

I've got a great example:
Michelin Pilot 205/55/16 vs Falken 452 205/55/16. stock tire size on my 97 Legacy GT. One of those wont clear the stock springs. Michelin tires are wider at the top because they dont round the edge off as quickly, so they rub the spring. So, what do you do when you just ordered $600 worth of tire which "SHOULD" have fit, but didnt?

That is the kind of info this thread contains.

Even if you know what will fit mathematically, you wont know exactly what the tire size/ rim width/ ride height will look like together on the car. this thread shows you what certain wheel/tire size will actually look like, and how well it fits.

Sure, I can easily figure out that a 15x8 +20et will actually fit my SE, but can I squeeze a 215/40/15 on with that wheel? Some people here have already done it, so you dont have to order new wheels only to find out that they dont fit the way you thought.

I have a GSL-SE rear axle. I've got some 13's on it now (had to remove the rear brake dust shields) I'll post a pic and specs at some point.

On my stock suspension FB, will 15x7 +20 w/ 205's fit? It certainly doesn't look like it, but I trust you guys.

Well guys I have a set of what I call face rims where the face of the rim sits flush to the edge of the rim, so basically no lip at all, Not really mystyle but I got a great deal on them.
Anyways my buddy came over in his AE86 today and he has a set of xxr 002's I believe. He's running some 15x8 w/ 195/50/15 on a 0 offset. while he was doing some brake work I took one of the rims and put it on my GSL-SE.
Basically the pics speak for the self the go past the fender about a 1.75".
Just thought I'de post the pics in case any one needed a reference point.

I have wheels that are supposed to fit a regular 1985 rx7....is there anyway i can fit these wheels on a GSL-SE?....do i need spacers?, if so what kind and how much do they generally cost? should i expect rubbing even if the wheels fit perfectly on a base model?

that is exactly what we need. Thanks alot for that picture, I am really considering that same wheel size/offest right now, but im not sure about the clearance exactly in the front. I see that others have run this, but it really must be super close on the front when you turn...

so, anyone actually have a pic of the sportmax 002's on an FB, not just the one above, but someone actually running them? Im thinking those in Red/silver lip on my black car would look great, along with ZG flares.

im in the same situation. with the ZG flares im planning on running 15"X7.5" rims with 0 offset and 195/50/15 tires...

I have 14x5.5" with 10mm offset wheels now and found out with a 16x7" a 27mm offset would match perfectly using this tool. Hope it helps.

So what are the official specs for the -SE stocker wheels?

^^ seems like a really odd setup for stock
