We've all seen this site...

We know that the RatShack power antenna mentioned is discontinued. Actually, I got the last one suckers. :p:

Anyhow. I've found a replacement.

So recently, while off-roading with my other vehicle, a 1989 Mazda B2600i 4x4 truck, I snapped it's manual antenna off on a tree limb.

I went to Circuit City to purchase a replacement and figured what the hell, Might as well get something that I can retract without getting myself all muddy.

I bought their universal power antenna, brought it home and decided to get out the old Rat Shack unit and compare.

The Circuit City unit is about a quarter inch shorter when retracted, from the top that sits under the fender to the two studs on the bottom; aside from that, they're identical. Same wiring, same outlines on the gearbox, same motor, etc.

When extended, the new unit is 31 inch mast versus the RadioShack's 39 inches.

The Antenna is manufactured by Metra. They have subsidiaries "RoadWorks" or "AntennaWorks" The model is 44-PW22 or AW-PW22

The same proceedure listed in Jim Rothe's site should work for this antenna.

The bad news is that it costs $50 versus the $20 that the Rat Shack unit cost.

Yes, I believe that the universal 'import' power antenna commonly available at autostores works in the 7. Luckily, I still have 3 new RS antennas stockpiled.

Thx for the info... My antenna is intermittant. Sometimes it comes right up, other times it takes a few miles to erect. I must need some antenna Viagra.

i bought my replacement power antenna from www.antennax.com

$30 plug and play...the motor burned out on the first one while i was fiddling around with the ground, i sent them an email and a few days later i got a replacement...he didn't even want the old one back, so now i have a spare mast if this one ever breaks...

i have an after market head unit so install went easy but the instructions also show how to wire it up to stock units...

JIIRC, Jim Rothe's (the link in Pele's OP) instructions show how to wire the positive-grounded antenna switch circuit on the dash (if so equipped) to an aftermarket as well. He also describes how to wire it so that it lowers when the stereo is off, which the stock didn't.

Is there any way to interface a AM/FM antenna to a CB radio? Radardetectors are illegal in VA. I need to keep a leg up on the five-oh.

Lol, five-oh. I don't like them, and they sure didn't like my little pos Hyundai on Memorial Day a year or two ago.

I used to have a power antenna on my '79 that had a loading coil built into it for use with a CB. Someone decided to snap it off so I've gone back to the stock antenna. I don't know if anyone still makes such an antenna or not.
