(IGNITION) points to electronic ignition conversion, MSD links?

Does anyone have the wed site that shows the points to electronic conversion?

I might even run directfire since I have a bunch of coils laying around, does anyone have the link to the site where they do this with an MSD box?

Also can you run 12v to the coils and eliminate the resistors or do you have to get new coils?

Theres a way to convert your car to direct fire without the need of an MSD go to www.mazspeed.com and look at their Garage (its a forum) and look for a thread called PMDFIS or somethin like that under Racing Ignition or Stock Electrical or whatever... its their, its cheap, and it works from all the ppl ive heard who have done it which is a lot more than a handful.

Make sure that you read through all 200+ responses spread out
between 9+ posts so that you fully understand the concept!

Wow, it's spreading here too!!!! :)

I'd recomend DLIDFIS over PMDFIS any day. DLIDFIS simply stands for dual leading ignitor direct fire ignition system. I've compared it to the MSD direct fire ignition system and it gave me more power and cleaner plugs.

You don't really need to read through 200+ posts (hi Jimbo!) to get the gist of how a rotary can run in direct fire, or why it has two plugs per rotor, or why it needs a long duration spark and why Mazda never went to a CD spark like some manufacturers did (they used points up untill switching over to an inductive electronic ignition, no CD sparks of any kind, ever!) etc etc in order to learn about how and why it works, just read the fairly long DLIDFIS article that I posted at Mazspeed. It covers everything that I could possibly think of (at the time of writing it, however I have been revising it here and there to further improve it). Just read as much as you can in order to make your own informed decision.

EDIT: oops, you also mentioned that you had a question about going from points to an electronic distributor. There is a nice article in the Facts section of Mazspeed that bobrx7 wrote. He mentions things like old relays that can be removed because they were used with the points and are no longer needed etc.

Side Comment:
I still think it's interesting that some auto manufacturers went to a CD ignition system that was still triggered by points back in the 60's and 70's, but Mazda never did. They knew that a CD spark was way too short for a rotary. Then when the '80 RX-7 came out, they finaly had a long duration elecrtonic ignition system, then they further improved it in '81 and it was good enough to keep (unchanged) for the next several years. Really interesting stuff.
