(ENGINE) Notched 12A bracket For 13B INstall
2 Attachment(s)
Kinda a rushed job but It should work, I have some large washers I plan to cover over the "nasty looking notch".....
I painted it gunmetal, with 5 coats of clear. This thing looks like glass!.. I am doing a Pictorial writeup for you guys on a s4 13b install into a 12A car. A picture of every step, (INcluding the FArgin Wiring) For those of you attempting this in the future. I know it's been done before but another persons perspective can't hurt too bad... I will post my personal pinout of the ecu with all wire colors and where they ended up going.. so have your pencils ready. |
I would be very interested in seeing the writeup. I'm geting ready to drop a 13B with a supercharger into my 1983 RX7

Since you won't have a entire slot to work with that looks like it might be a pain to set on the mounts unless you prefer to put it on the mounts and then bolt to the front cover.
|
I marked where it sat and then slotted it. I think that with an engine hiost and a jack it will work out ok....

Is your notch 20mm to the rear if the original slot? It looks a little short. Why don't you just weld a piece of steel to the end of the mount and then make another hole or slot? Like this:
|
That's how I did mine, using the metal from another mount, it appears that's what you did as well. If you have the resources it's much cheaper than rb's $80 unit and just as good.
|
When I first put a 13B into a 12A chassis (long time ago), the RB bracket was not an option. When I measured 20mm back from the existing slot on the 12A bracket, the new hole or slot would have been at the edge of the metal. I wanted to ensure the original geometry did not change, and did not think it was as secure and balanced on the mounts without the additional material. It only took a couple hours and virtually no cost to modify the bracket with some scrap steel stock, and I have used a similar approach ever since, except when the 13B is set up for rear mount.

Mine worked great!

nice to see this old thread again. at any rate, when doing my SE swap, all i did was drill the 12A's bracket..and file it, lol. bolted right in. the clearance problem was the center link touching on the oil pan. not good, so the drilling was a must.
