(ELECTRICAL) where to buy 3 prong connector
I need a 3 prong connector for my TII project. I need both sides of the connetor.. any ideas..

The easiest/cheapest would be from a wrecking yard. Most Mazdas around those years have the same connectors.
New, it is a little tricky. I went throgh this to get connectors for the "transistor trick" kits to plug into the stock ignitor (2 terminal type). I checked auto parts stores, electronics stores, etc. with no luck. I ended up tracking some down through a motorcycle store. This place has the 3 prong, but no retaining clip. http://www.mikesxs.com/mikesxs-elect...ategory_id=2.6 This place has them (part B-38R). You need to buy pack of 10. You also need the terminals (pack of 100). You also need the crimper tool. http://www.cyclewareables.com/pages/...connectors.htm Since you are using both ends, I would try to get a generic 3 pin connector. Go to the autoparts store and check the GM weatherpak connectors. Very common and probably your best bet. Hope this helps. Kent |
CB performance (www.cbperformance .com) has weather tite connectors in 1-4 prong. and you can buy one or 10. I think they want 3.99 for a 4 prong. these are good water/oil/heat proof connectors similar to what chevy and ford use on their new vehicles.
Or you can try McMater Carr: http://www.mcmaster.com/ Be careful though you can find a lot of things to spend money on here :) |
I'd not recommend junk yard parts as you're buying pre-corroded connectors in most cases.
Any auto supply store usually has new, clean connectors of several configurations in their Trailer Wiring section. |
I ended up getting a trailer connector. works good.. thanks for the info

Can you say archivable? ;)
Just to add my 2c before I do though, I've used junk yard connectors in the past... but I grab them from late-90s model Mazdas (less corrosion) and I always use capricious amounts of electrical contact cleaner. It's worked fine so far. The connector on my fuel level sender comes from the engine bay fuse box of a '99 323. Jon |
